hey, people. im really new to this stuff, and i would love to learn from you guys. i would like to learn how to make a metal halo reach armor. i need advice. im also hoping to make it to look like my character in halo reach. my gamertag is FTG the Horacio if that helps. i was wondering if someone could send me some sort of plan for that armor, if you could. im glad im here. Thanks for listening!

I hate to break it to you, but you probably will not find anyone to help you out with this. There will be plenty of people willing to help if you want to make your armor the more conventional way, but most people here think that making metal spartan armor (or any "real" halo armor for that matter) is a waste of money and time. The armor we make here is primarily for costume and display.
That being said, if you change your mind and decide to go the pep/foam/sculpt route, I am confident you will receive plenty of advice and help. We here at the 405th see far too many new people coming to the site with aspirations of making "functional" armor (I've even seen someone recently make a bulletproof ODST chest, but this project was going to cost upwards of $5000). These projects always fail (at least I've never seen one to completion). So, save your money and sanity, I beg you.

ok, thanks. i was thinking using sheet metal would work. might be too thin for designing and i would have to use ungalvanised metal so i could paint it. not really functional, just realistic. i'll leave the functional to the experts. i can probably get the sheet metal, i just need the designs and equipment. also advise. i want it to be like "holy crap! that looks realistic!" not "holy crap! a spartan about to kick my ass!"

how much for 3 mm thick sheet metal per square foot? i could check online, but it was hell just finding this site

I'm just saying, take a look around the site. Members like LongshotX and Thorssoli have made armor out of paper and the results are phenomenal. Browse through the elite showcase section of the forums and see what I mean and decide if you really do need metal to make realistic looking armor. I'm not trying to be an ass here, just trying to save you some hard-ache.

thats not really what this site is about
people come here to ask questions about making armor and to show off their end results. I came to this site because i had a question about how to make my armor awesome. And ive told people before and ive seen it been told by others to others that "this site is not a ebay for armor" and i agree. sorry but your not gonna get good results if you ask that.

im pretty sure i dont need metal, but i dont want it to... uh rip, as easily as paper. i mean, i want it somewhat more durable

what you do after the paper model is fiberglass it. this gives it a lot of strength and durrability. i put two layers of fiberglass on mine because i will play paintball/airsoft in it :D

that does sound durable, but... is it durable enough to sit down in without crushing the ass- armour? also, is it difficult to paint with fiberglass? and does it look real? thats a biggie

um...
-yes (probly need more than one layer for this particular piece)
-no (the paper stays on and you put body filler to smooth edges out)
-yes (if you do it correctly)

one question. what is "body filler"? is that a painting term? and by layer, you mean fiberglass? i guess thats two questions. im really new to this

okay thats fine :) body filler (bondo) is like a putty type substance that hardens when you put the hardener in. it can be sanded down and it is used to smooth out edges and imperfections.
yes, by "layers" i mean fiberglass.
look at youtube videos on how to do this stuff, theyre really helpful!

and again back on topic. what should i use for the black under armour, as in the un-hardened black material on the spartans. is there a sort of suit i should be thinking about?

yes (halo 1 remake) november 15th and (halo 4) 2012
i just use under armor brand clothes but if you have money, you can get a pressure suit which looks more realistic.

and if someone could, i would probably need a plan for the armor i have on my person on the gamertag mentioned above. please send these plans, if you will, to mhavlik22@gmail.com please, if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated
