Hey guys! im new to the community and to the armor building world, so I was wondering if I could get some help. Even though its not recommended for weapons, i am building my first weapon on pepakura, just so that I can get used to how your supposed to build it. im building a halo pistol, and im goin shopping this weekend for some cardstock. I have a few questions.
1. What should I use to cut the cardstock after printing it?
2. What should I use to glue the pieces together?
3. After all of that, what stuff do you coat on the outside after finishing the gluing?
and finally, 4. How much fiberglass should be put on the inside? a single layer? double up?

All your comments would be extremely helpful! I heard from several people the community is very helpful, so dont let em down! :cool:

Hi there Devin,

Ill try an answer your questions best I can.

1. dependant on the prop your building i.e. sliced or folded depends on the card you need, if its sliced print to paper and cut with scissors or sharp blade loosely (a few mm outside the solid line) and spray glue those parts onto 3mm sheets of foam-core/board then cut as directed with a sharp blade. if its a folded prop first find out what your printer will take maximum on GSM paper/card and print directly and cut with a sharp blade (Suggestion: precision blades similar to a scalpel).

2. for Foam-core/board use hot glue, for card stock PVA will do the job at this stage with a little scotch tape to help the hold on delicate flaps.

3. use fibreglass resin 1oz resin to 10 drops hardener mixed vigorously till mixed together (This requires lots of safety equipment (See forums for this). but this method is for the folded model only to firm up your work for later handling. and do it on the inside as well as outside.

4. Fibreglass once again needs safety equipment (again read related forum) for general cosplay 1 layer outside the piece will be enough but for longevity 1 layer inside and 1 outside like a sandwich (Start on the inside first).

Hope this has given you a kick start. have fun and be safe.

Thanks for the help! I'm going to the store today to buy some heavy duty cardstock. Im building the magnum from H3.

hey 122 for that PVA i assume its poly vinyl alcohol ? what is the performance like using this type of adhesive towards using hot glue or superglue?

@devin im with you bud im heading over to the shop on friday to get all of my supplies let us know what your looking into on building :)

welcome to 405th!! thank you both

no I was talking about Polyvinyl acetate also know as "wood glue," "white glue," "carpenter's glue," "school glue," its as safe as water.

@Spartan
Yeah I was wondering what the heck PVA was. That helps a lot. I've decided to build an ODST helmet instead. I think that it would be more fun, and I could wear it. So the same type of stuff can be used right? And where can I buy some fiberglass?

@James
Haha nice. I'm going over to my G'ma's this weekend, so I'll probably stop by my other G'ma's store to pick up the cardstock and glue. It'l give me something to do this weekend. Let me know about the progress of your build!
