Great start, for a one day build it's impressive. I can't wait to see what you can do with alittle more time.

My gawd, that's incredibly noobish! :p J/k

Looks good though, dude. Once you've finished with the main body of the pistol, you'll want to add the surface details in layers. My advice would be to use sheet styrene (I may be a little biased in that respect, lol) ;)

I happened across a unique property of hot glue yesterday you might find useful for some detailing.

If you leave it outside it will get very cold, when its that cold it shapes quite easily with a dremel... didn't try a sanding tip but I had a cylinder shaped cutting tip on it.

Not bad for your first try. We use what we have to build with to make the best prop we can. Great M6G!!!! (y)

So young with so much potential. Keep doing what you are doing and you will be among the Elites one day.

Ithica

I agree with all other posts. the only thing that makes it 'noobish' is lack of finish. but dont get me wrong! Trying new ideas, and finding beter, cheaper, and faster ways to doing things will get you noticed around here! Sure, its lacking a bit of detail. But wrap that thing in resin and start etching at it, and you'll have a decently weighted prop that looks good from 10 ft away, and thats all you need.

Update in first post.

For those detail spots, you should have used sculpey (if you can get it somewhere locally), you can get all the detail you want and more into it.

That could work very well for the barrel. If you got on of the larger 1/2" glue sticks, you could carve out the intricate details of the barrel in no time. But regardless of what method you pursue, a dremel will be very helpful in every aspect of this build. Good luck! ;) And yes, for some reason, this does show some potential Ithica. Idk what it is, but something just stands out.

I'm glad that this has potential, unlike my other builds… (no thanks to ImGonnaGetYou)

It's ok dude. You shouldn't care if other people drag you down. Half of armor building is the joy you take in creating things. You shouldn't make it strictly just for the praise and commendation you recieve from others. It's all about the experience! :) Also keep in mind, criticism is great! It's just when the criticism isn't constructive that things go bad. I've learned that when others just tell you what is wrong, rather than how you could get better, that's when you should just ignore them.

Just fyi I have nothing against you imagonnagetyou. I was just offering my 2cents. ;)

I sometimes overreact to certain things, because I have Asperger's Syndrome (Don't tell my mother! She doesn't want me blaming it!)

I'm a big fan of the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid!). This falls under that category and with some bondo and styrene you'll have a perfect Magnum in no time. You might even be able to use it as a master and pull some vacuuforms off of it!

Is styrene available at common home improvement stores like Lowes? Or is it on availible for purchase online?

Gotta buy it online. Just make sure that it's STYRENE and not POLYstyrene.

Lowes & Home Depot sell stuff for making construction grade windows like acrylic and polycarbonate (LEXAN). Polycarbonate is bulletproof but it does not heat form well. The grade of acrylic that they sell totally sucks too!

Styrene is used generally for modeling applications due to its ability to retain incredibly high detail, It's grat for vacuuforming. However, it's strength is typically less than that of acrylic of the same thickness. Good for small things, but if you go big, watch out!
