My GF and I bought tickets for DragonCon next year and we thought we would dress up for it. I suggested Halo but while she enjoys watching the Storyline when I play, she isn't that into it. We chose to go as Iron Man and Iron Woman. We also hope to have ether a Stormtrooper or TOR Trooper and Commander Shepard Armor as well. We are using Eirth's Iron Woman patterns for for the chest and cod pieces, otherwise using Sekkei's Mark 4 for her. I am using his Mark 6 Armor. We had some failed sizing attempts, but thanks to a little help and learning about the point to point measurements, it looks like we have now the sizing fixed. Right now we are using Fiberglass Resin but as we don't have an outside space we can heat in the winter and I will be traveling come Feb, we will be using EpoxAmite so we can work in side the house. We will still sand outside however.

As the US Government is shut down, and my contract suspended, I have PLENTY of time to work on this right now. We bought a Silhouette Cameo to help cut the patterns out as we both have wrist issues and the fact that it cuts the cutting time by at least half. The only issues we run into are some of the more odd why the hell are there cut points right there but it works great otherwise.

This is where we sized everything wrong. We are using them to practice Resin, Rondo and ensure we can make the parts correctly.

Not looking to bad despite the burnt fingers and other parts because the glue gun got too hot.

I finished gluing the left thigh this afternoon, but my company found work for me starting on Monday so I'll slow down

Nice clean pep work.

I was going to build a Halo suit, but all of these Iron Man (person...) builds are making me rethink my plans.

Keep going, it's looking great.

Thanks Dorvack, some are rough but its a lot better than when I was cutting the lines myself. I am thinking of doing Halo next year. I'll be starting that one once our DragonCon Armor sets are done.

So we Rondo Glassed (We used Bondo with Fiberglass and Resin mix, about 50/50) most of the insides this afternoon after Resining the outside of the remaining pieces save for the thigh which I am not happy about. We also found a spot on the calf were one of the folds came undone and stuck itself wrongly. As I need to split it to get my foot though it, we are thinking of taking that piece out and using it so I can get my foot inside of it. We ran out of paint brushes or we would of finished them. Does anyone know of cheep brushes we can buy online? I am going to look after I post but it cant hurt to ask. Also, when we Resined, we did use once the foam brushes but noted that it kind of fell apart. Anyone use use foam brushes?

Our plan for tomorrow is to Bondo everything and finish the Rondo on the few left, hopefully sand as well. I'll post photos once we get that done. To us, the gluing and probably the detail work takes the longest. Am I wrong on this?

So we did not get around to Bondo'ing on Sunday. It turns out that there was some warpage from the glassing of the inside of the calf piece. We also noted several flaws in the pep work where the hot glue came a part and then stuck funny. I attempted to put the thing on after splitting it and it was too small so I have to rebuild it. The thigh also was a little too small so we are going to remake that piece as well. Updates later this week.

I look forward to seeing you there if you march in the parade. And I can never use hot glue because like you said it comes apart and sticks funny. With white glue I find that I can keep the edges sharp and close so there's no raised spits due to the glue. Just my little suggestion if you haven't tried it yet. Good work and it's cool you have a partner.

We have tried other recommended glues but found that they didn't work nearly as well as hot glue. I might try the white glue and see what happens, thanks.
