My Big Green Foam ODST Helmet (PIC HEAVY WIP)

    #1
hey guys so ive been working with foam for about a year now and i decided after i had finished my mrk vi helmet to challenge myself so for my halo reach suit i made a odst helmet and i used a file i got from http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/...highlight=odst go and check that forum for the file
so i had the file and decided to use green foam for fun and after 3 hours and a sheet of foam i got this

feel free to post questions, criticism and ideas tomorrow ill be bondoing the seams so it looks a whole lot smoother before i paint and add a visor

Nice foam work, have you thought of using foamies to add more detail?

Why don't you use the craft foam to cover the seams?

so guys i read the polls and i chose the sniper goggles and bucks radio ampliphyer
                before...

                after...

so this is bucks radio ampliphyer

and because you guys voted i gave you the most voted peice yet
                with a tutorial

print off a template of your sniper goggles cut out the two main body pieces and trace them on the foam

(make sure you goggles have the 405th seal of approval ^_^

when you have cut out the two halfs cut a long strip of 1/4 inch or 2mm-3mm foam that will go in between the two halfs

glue the pieces together and add some dimension by using the remains of the foam strip on the eye hole

to give piece more dimension i went around the piece with 1/4 inch thick foam

                detail with a soldering iron

then add a long strip of 1/2 inch foam for the struts that will allow it to move on the helmet

add screws or bolts so i can tilt on the helmet and your done

so moving away from the tutorial i made some thing which may be familiar from the halo 3 cgi master chief scene

if you look at the scene when he picks up his helmet he has a neck seal like thing as well as in the opening cut scene for halo reach

so i decided to make it as it looks quite cool
so i grabbed some old foam

cut it into strips about an inch wide

then cut them into smaller strips that was suitable for my progect

then just folded and glued them into little segments

and tested to see if they fit...

                  before painting them black

                  looked like this

which got my seal of approval

please give and ideas and inquirys/questions you may have
                  because im watching closely

This is definitely turning out to be pretty great.
It's nice that you added in that padding in the back of the neck, too, since people love to ignore that detail in their builds.

Now I'm glad I impulse bought a ton of foam. haha

at the moment its really strong because its really dense foam so i dont plan on yet
