    Portal Turret

    #1
    hi guys and gals,

i am currently working on a portal turret
for everyone who doesn't know what it is (probably nobody )
    here's a pic:

here are the blueprints i am using to make this:

my dad bought an cnc hot wire machine. it's specially made to cut isomo (i think its the same in english) if you like, i could upload a movie of it working on this.

i am currently in the middle of my exams, so it's slowly coming together.
here are some pics of the current status:
    the body:

    the side:

    the legs:

next thing i have to do --> harden the isomo with special resin that is in test mode (my dad owns a resin shop )
normal resin would just eat all of the isomo

      Small Update:

first thing i did was a layer of epoxy to protect the foam.
then i put on a layer of polyester resin mixed with some white coloring.
first pic is just a test piece:

      these are the leg-pieces:

Pretty sweet looking turret. Never played Portal before but I like a lot of the designs in it.

That is a really cool project. With a motion detector and lights, the possibilities are endless. Can't wait to see it go together.

                    update time:

the body and sides are now hardend with epoxy, next thing to do --> resin it for more stiffness (that sounds wrong )

during my studie break, i made some circular cuts in it, and cut some pvc tubing to the wright size, and put it together

it is actually starting to look like a turret.

Small update. I have painted it with a thick layer of primer.

Next step. Sand it down so it's as smooth as a baby butt

the unlimited ammo will be a slight problem

the sanding is coming along nicely,
i totally suck at plamuring, so my dad helps me.

                        pic time:

                        small holes, but fixed easily

Looking pretty good, cant wait to see it finished
Also, any plans to install a small mp3 player or something similar into it and have it play the various phrases the in game turrets say? I know it is a wild idea, but felt I had to share it

it has crossed my mind many times, but i just don't have the skills to do it...
so i will just set an small speakersystem near the turret with an eletronic eye, if he sees something moving, he should be saying: "There you are " or "gotcha!!!"

you know that feeling, when your project is just laying there because you:
                              - don't have time
                              - don't have the materials
                              - don't have the money
                              - don't feel like it...

                              well, this is such time
