My 1st helmet build. Daft Punk Guy Helmet.

    #1
I'm currently making a Daft Punk Helmet (Guy's) and will post my progress in here.
I've never really made anything like this besides a deadmau5 helmet but that's pretty easy compared to this.

Pic of Mau5 head: (I'm the one in the middle)

I didn't have ANY experience with Bondo, Resin, Fiberglass, or anything before I started this project so I'm learning as I go and from what I've learned on here and youtube.

    Finished Pep Piece:

    Don't have images of the Resin/Fiberglass stage, Sorry. >_>;

    1st Layer of Bondo:

After like 2 layers of Bondo + Some Sanding + Some Spot Putty to fill in some craters:

    Primer'd to see imperfections:

Me and My friend's helmet so far.....:

Right now I'm sanding to get the right shape I want.

I also built the Vacuum Former today at my friend's house (Where we are working on our helmets) and when I got home I received my PETG sheets in the mail so I'm good on that part.

I'll post updates daily to this.

Looks good but it looks like you filled the earwell cavity.

Well I didn't make it nor put it in my pep piece. (Obviously) lol. I'm gonna make that piece, resin, fiberglass, and then add it on by dremeling the shape from the ear thing. Then apply bondo and all that. Next would be getting rid of imperfections and then sending it to you to make the mold of it. Me and my friend are still debating on which helmet to send cuz his helmet has the ear pieces attached and everything.

If his has the ear pieces already attached that one would be best honestly.

Well his helmet does have the ear pieces but he did a nasty bondo job on that and I wouldn't blame him, It's a small ass space to work with.
Also his helmet has sort of stretched out from the sides making it look "kinda" wide. Mines prettty much perfect besides the ear area when compared to his.

Ah makes sense, he should'nt have put bondo in the earwells, resin yes bondo no. It's hard to get it out of a area like that.

              So no bondo in earwells?
Wouldn't that make it look all flat or whatever? Or would the resin, fiberglass, and paint and all that make it un-noticeable?
Should I just spot putty the ear cavity?

I answered your questions on my thread.

For this build I would honestly cut out the D-Rings and make new ones with the holes in them. But, You can dremel out the holes on yours and build up the inner walls with bondo and sand smooth and flat. The take a mouse sander and make the back side of the D-Rings flat and glue in a plate to the back side of the D-Ring.

I would also put a flat spot in on the chin there to give it a more square look.

Hope this all helps and makes sense.

Whoa! Great job for the first time, bro! My first time the helmet decided to split in half, leaving me with two clumps of soggy paper...

I was gonna dremel out the shape of the ear cavity and then put my newly assembled pep piece in it and reinforce it by putting resin and fiberglass on it then apply Bondo but I can't really work in that smallass space. :/

Thanx man. How did your paper get soggy? From the resin? Did you use cardstock or regular computer paper?

Ok so I'm back from my trip to Cali and will start working on my helmet tomorrow.

I got 1 question though, What's the best way to harden and smoothen the ear cavity? I was told not to use bondo because of the super small space...

Small update! Been busy for the past week and I finally manage to get some time to cut out the ear cavity.
Gonna apply bondo on that Ear wall and smooth the whole surface down.

My Helmet with my friend's. (His has speakers for ears)

Closer look at my friend's helmet.

                            Aerial view?

Just a side shot of my helmet.

Looking real nice now =D, do you have the pep file for that?
And do you think you'll start a Thomas B helmet once you've done Guys?

Looks real smooth to me, i did the same thing for detailing as well, wish my helmet cut out as smooth as yours though =/.
