A question about painting...

I have made a Daft Punk Thomas and Guy helmet, I have painted them both using Rustoleum Metallic Gold and Silver paints, When I cover the paint with a gloss enamel clear coat, they get really dull looking. Do any of you have any suggestions on keeping this stuff looking really shiny and metal-like? I couldn't find anything related to this in a stick...

I have used this foil for several large scale planes for polished metal surfaces.... works pretty cool.... like I said.... just a thought....
