I've been out of the wood prop making scene for quite some time, and I've been playing airsoft instead for the last few years. And then I had the wonderful idea to make a custom Springfield M1903A3 with working airsoft internals from a Tokyo Marui VSR-10 I had bought to serve as a donor for the project.
I admit, even as it is now, I realize I still have a lot of details left to add to it. But I believe it's as close to the real deal without revealing itself as just an airsoft rifle. Enjoy!
I wanted to turn this...:
Into this:
I don't have a lot of pictures from the early build, but here we have the basic shape of the stock with the VSR-10 internals inside.
Added the rear sling mount.
Made and added the front barrel bands and sling mount.
Turned the barrel extension on a lathe.
And here it is before the butt plate, bayonet lug band, rear and front sights and custom bolt assembly is made and installed. I don't have pictures of those particular manufacturing prosesses, but anything that's not airsoft is hand made.
Here it is with all parts installed, but the stock still needs some oil color applied and final oil coats before it's done.
And here it is, painted, oiled and assembled!
And ready to take it into the field and skirmish!
