For those of you who don't want to spend the time/money/risk of using resin and fiberglass, I've found that paper mache works pretty well. I use white elmer's glue and paper bags...and layer it like you would fiberglass and resin. After that, I smooth on the bondo as normal to finish off the piece. It may not be indestructible, but it can get the job done. I've found the piece to be sufficiently strong after completion, as long as you don't plan on going to war in the suit anyways...against the people who crashed the site :angry:angry:angry

Any Completed WIP thread that has tried this method that you've seen around? I won't mind tring it out on one of my small projects.

I tried that, and the first time I got caught in the rain, my helmet melted. Plus, it was really fragile. The fiberglass is the way to go.

I'm gona be using paper mache for my armor, and I have used this before and can honestly say that the finish product is not fragile. During the procedure, of course because its wet, but when it is dried and after puting in a few layers its pretty tuff stuff.

I could post a picture of my half finished iron man helmet if you like, but it looks very similar to other projects. If you seal your helmet with paint and a sealant, it wont fall apart if it gets wet. Just be sure to put sealant on both sides of the piece, not just the outside.

Well I didn't use bondo on my first project, but I'm glad I did on the second. It's a car body filler, and it won't flake off because it just won't bend lol. It holds up very nice when finished, and it makes the helmet look a lot smoother :] I highly recommend it *thumbs up*

That works well too. Also, if you want a strong base, soak newspapers in water overnight and it will turn into pulp. Then add a lot of glue and apply that to your helmet. It will take a while to sand, but it'll be very very strong.

Would that be similar to a paper clay? I've been looking for an easy paper clay recipe.

Well I guess it would be very similar to a paper-based clay actually. I never thought of it that way lol. And yeah it's very easy I just threw some newspaper strips in a bucket overnight then strained it and added a lot of white elmer's glue :]

I did Paper Mache for my H2 ODST(easy starting off, and eay on walet!) I used a four and water base but I think I need to tryout glue. But Here is what I have so for... Dry weird but work fine. Overall worked fine and stregth is how many layers you have on same as resin.

Also how do you do your Paper mache?

I made a devil face mask a couple of months ago with paper mache .I used titebond II diluted with water. To add texture to the mask after the initial mache work , I added some water putty to the mix.

Thats good, just like the others that are fiberglassed without bondo. How you started on another suit or weapons? I am going to try another paper mache suit with glue and not flour-base. Also did it deform much, cause it looks great. We should make a tutorial for paper mache to let other know it works and is cheaper. What do you say?

Which pep file you ganna use (if you've decided) maybe I'll join you . We could build at the same time. I wanna try my luck at a paper mache suit.

If you buy the gallon containers of Elmer's Glue, dilude it with water, then just use a simple paintbrush to spread over the paper, It works great. Also if you are looking for more strength, Kraft Paper Tape does wonders to strengthening paper. Just get it wet.

This is just paper tape, nothing else.

Thats a good Idea and its in my signature. I just got cardstock (110 lb) at sam's club(orlando, FL) for $6.86 + 6.5%tax for 250 sheets, cheapest I know in Orlando, FL. I will hopefully start peping my chest Monday, Need to find scaling for me but I think I can just print it. I'm 5'11" and not skinny, so It should take 10 days or less to pep whole suit. What suit are you making?
