Halo: Reach, Kat armor WIP - AvAngelAvA

Hey everyone!!! It's official, I'm making my first build ever. Thanks to AceNat's Kat thread I've got a good base to work off of

(and of course the noob forum for teaching me how) if it wasn't for her and all her helpers I wouldn't even be attempting this!

So, I've started by cutting out the hand plates and then I'll be moving on to the boot toe

I'll share pics once there's more to report than just the little pieces lol

Congrats. I'm sure the side effects of this build will be :bouts of frustration, accompanied by anger, tears, a little blood, lotsa sweat, some dizziness. Maybe nausea and (diarrhea)? Feelings of hopelessness and exhilaration may come in equal amounts. If you experience any of these symptoms, please step away from the build and consult a doctor, or any of the other of the great artisans, then get right back to work.

Oh and did I mention exhilaration?

God I'm so jealous. I've yet to grow the cojones needed to take on any type of an armor build. Post lotsa pics AvA

First attempt!

Here are some pics of the hand plate I've been working on... soooo many small parts lol

-Note: I haven't glued these yet, just temporarily taped with electrical tape till I get to that stage (because I couldn't wait to see what it looked like sorta put together)-

Thanks alix! Yeah, I'm sure I'll be going through all of those feelings and more during this build. It's kind of a daunting task but I'm just going to take it one step at a time and not rush myself. The fact that I'm a huge perfectionist is a good and a bad thing.. but if I'm careful in every phase of construction hopefully I won't wreck to much hard work in the process haha

as far as you not starting a build yet.. hey, you gotta start somewhere! I'm sure I'll make plenty of mistakes but you gotta learn somehow, right? N of course I'll be posting lots of pics!

Thanks Nat! I'm looking forward to it too lol n thanks for reminding me about posting the pics... I would've been sad if I got in trouble

Hey Ruze, I really appreciate that. Although I'll admit I got a little confused when I had started posting the pics from ImageShack and found out it was back to Flickr haha yay for mod superpowers!

It's a boot toe!

Worked on this when I got stuck with the hand plate (two of the pieces aren't cooperating..) so yeahh I just took a break from that and tada! I think it might be a tiny bit too small tho :/ fits my barefoot perfectly but idk about a shoe too. Nat you must have pretty little feet, unless the scale in the file isn't the one you used lol meh, if it doesn't work then I'll just show it off as some kind of progress piece to show people what goes into making something like this.

how does it look?

(p.s. I didn't finish the other side yet haha don't know if you can tell from this angle)

ahah looks good so far, but yeah the scale in the file is too small for me. i thought it would be fine at first but my shoe size, is 6 english 8 american and i ended up using a 150mm wide boot toe, i will double check that though to be sure

edit: so whats up with the handplate? i know some of the pieces are a little bit of a pain to put together..

Thanks, Noble 1. I'm kind of frustrated that I haven't gotten very far on it yet.. silly work getting in the way (and yes, I'm playing too much Reach). But I'm getting close to having enough done to merit an update! Lol maybe I'll have a shin finished tomorrow?? *crosses fingers*

Game time, baby!

So I started back up on my pepakura armor about a month ago, and this is what I've been doing since then

I'm glad its looking good to some well trained eyes! The main reason there was such a break is because I got a new job and have been working a lot of hours, and I suppose I just lost a bit of motivation. I don't have any cons to get ready for and the lack of a deadline has had me putting other projects before this build. BUT I'm back now! I'm getting excited about the warmer weather and can't wait to finish up some of the pep stuff so I can spend time in my garage with all the doors open doing resin (although I may take that back once it gets all hot and sticky outside and I'm wearing a respirator lol)

I just spent some time looking at HaloGoddess' Kat build with foam (found here: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/31534-Halo-Reach-Kat-Foam-Armor) and am a little frustrated seeing how well foam has been working out for other members of the 405th.. I feel like I'm too far in to my pep build of the chest piece to start over but should I consider trying that method out with the other pieces? It seems pretty easy and fast to use. I also read from her and another member posting that the torso piece I'm using is turning out too deep, that it seems narrowed for a female frame but then is basically the same as the male version. Should I just continue through and deal with any needed modifications later? I'm thinking it won't be as noticeable with me because I'm pretty tall at 5'10".

Its getting there!

Just glued a bunch of the larger pieces together and I'm pretty happy with how it looks

unfortunately I ran out of glue so I'll have to finish assembling the front half tomorrow... watch for the update! I'll see if I can't get a good picture of myself actually "wearing" it then too hah

But in the meantime... PICS!
