you shouldnt loose everything on your pc. take it to a computer repair shop as they will have to try and remove the virus that is taking over your system.

I've been buying my foam from Harbor Freight. It's basically floor mats and they look like big puzzlepieces because they can interlock.

BAD NEWS guys. :(

My computer has recently had something bad happened to it. DOn't know what. All of a sudden some window popped up asknig me if I wanted to run some program as it has done in the past, and I clicked cancle, but it would NOT go away! I restarted my computer then all of a sudden some Windows Recovery thing popped up and it keeps wanting me to buy something. I can't close the window and my desktop is blank. All the stuff that I had on my desktop is gone and I did a search to see if my stuff even still existed. It does...........but ALL the folders are apparently EMPTY!!! :( I have no idea what happened, but I disconnected it form the internet and turned the thing off. I am using my husbands computer right now.

It sucks because now I can't print out the templates for the other things I need for my armor pieces and until my PC problem gets fixed I won't be able to do anything. :( I just hope that whatever happened doesn't cause me to loose everything on my computer.

The 8th of April I had the same thing happen to me. I ran my Norton software, but no joy. I could still go online if I type each web page addee. Tks God! I had all my other info, and all my halo stuff saved to an ext hard drive. So I just moved the ext hard drive to my gaming cpu, and it's ok. My online cpu is dead, I just got a new cpu tower from Wal-Mart, I'm back up online. Sorry to hear you got hit also.

When that happened to one of my computers, it was because my oldest hit up the porn sites and gave my comp the HIV. Its probably just adware, telling you to buy something that will fix the exact problem that it causes.

Fixing it yourself is risky if you dont know how to do it. I think Best Buy does removal of this stuff or Geeks R Us or w/e. Call around, hopefully you can get a best case scenario.

I've had the same problem.

Step 1: right-click on the taskbar at the bottom of windows. If the task manager is grayed out, meaning that you cannot select it, proceed to step 2.

Step 2: If you can get to another computer, download Malware Bytes and Spybot Search & Destroy. Load onto a flash drive to be able to install onto the affected computer.

Step 3: Restart the affected computer in Safe Mode. This will allow you to run the 2 new programs, as the hostile application will not allow you to install the those programs on the PC while it is running normally.

Step 4: When you run the 2 new programs, be sure to update to the most recent database file of hostile applications, just as you would do with Norton. When you run the new apps, they will typically locate the hostile file, in which case the program will remove it from the PC.

If any, or all of this is confusing, I'll be more than happy to send you a message with my phone number so you can call me. I had to talk to a buddy of mine over the phone to get it all figured out. Hopefully this helps a little.

err, I usually dont post anymore, but if the virus doesnt start right away when you start up the computer, you can try to do a system restore before it blocks the programs. if you have enough time in the start-up, you can navigate to Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< System Restore before the virus can activate. I recommend restoring to the furthest back date. You will not lose any files in the process, and it wont remove the virus permanently. This would be a temporary solution, but in that time, you can download/buy a security program for your computer to prevent it from coming back.

Where in the metro Detroit area are you? I work at the USPS Distribution Center during the week, and I'm studying to be a PC repair tech. I can see about recovering your data for you.

Had the same thing happen and did the above, but I had to "f8" at startup to get it to do a safe boot. Seemed everytime the pc started the adware started...so the desktop was non-existant. Those empty folders may not be your folders at all, just a spoof put there by the virus.
Sorry to hear it hon...but see what you can do before scrapping your HDD

This is risky but...
Step 1: Aim fist at PC.
Step 2: Say Faaallcooonn... PAUNCH!
Step 3: Watch the virus flee in terror of your mighty fiery fist.

Otherwise try plugging Cortana into the nearest USB port.

Tried that, and 12382 way. Still no joy. It keeps telling me I have bad section/bits on my hard drive. The guy down at the cpu store has 5 cpu's with the same thing going on as mine.

P.S. Hope you can get your templetes back so you can keep working on this build. Good luck.

Or you could Octorockout with your Octocockout!
Works for me.

I live north of the metro detroit airport. It's probably like a 10 minute drive from the airport. If you are familiar with street names, I am off merriman.

UPDATE:

I tried the system recovery thing. It seems to have worked, but TONS of stuff is GONE!!!!! :( :( :( My wedding pictures, pep files, graphic work, avatar work for another website I do work for, armor references, halo pics.........everything is ALL GONE!!!! *cries* Even if I do a search for it, it can't find anything. I have no clue what happened and I don't even know if it's still there. :( Also, all the websites I had saved in favorites are all gone, but when I came here to add 405th to my favorites, a message popped up saying that I already have it there. o_O So I am VERY confused at this point. It's like my stuff IS there, but everything is invisible.

This happened to me about a year ago. Its a special virus that you have gotten! I have a friend that works in a IT department. He had a device(not sure what it is called) but it connects to his pc the other end connects to your hard drive (I had to take mine out, I have a desk top) But when you connect to your hard drive it turns your hard drive into a "mass storage device". It disregards all of the "programs" and only recognizes info. He was able to retrieve all of my stuff to his hard drive(thank goodness!) then I reformated my hard drive and reloaded all of the programs!! I dont know about your favorites though. I hope this helps! By the way.. your armor looks great!!!

You have a particularly nasty virus, and you will need to bring out the big guns in order to smash it. I think your files are still there, but the virus is playing with them. Follow this guide ON A SEPARATE COMPUTER!!!! Boot your infected computer from the thumb drive and let Kasperky work its magic.

lol, yay for system restore, but boo at no files D: I think you have to rebuild your computer, did you have a backup drive where you could put all of your personal files in? like one of those book file holder things.. lol i forgot what they were called, but if you do, and if they are invisible, then i guess you could try to transfer the files to another computer and see if it works and hope you dont transfer the virus with it. if it works, you could rebuild your computer, and transfer files later.

Thanks for all the advice guys. It's really been keeping my hopes up that all my stuff is still there. :)

Until then, I gotta work today (sunday) and I am off for the next 3 days so I will be finishing up my other thigh, and I recently obtained a soildering iron so I get to work on some nice detail! hehe Luckily for me, my programs are still on my computer AND on my desktop where I kept them so I can still use pepakura to make my templates. :)

If you connect that HD to another computer, it should act like a big old thumbdrive and you should be able to pull your files off of it. I would take it to an IT person and ask them to retrieve your files and reinstall windows...,then just reinstall your programs and put your old files back on your comp.

I wish you hadn't done that...you may have had Windows overwrite some of your data.

If you are using Vista or Windows 7, I believe there should be a folder on the C: Local Disk called "Windows.old". If so, your files may be in it. I was hoping to get up there today, but 3 days in a row of little sleep caught up with me.

Another little update on the status of my computer.....

After I did the system restore, I ran Malware to see if anything was infected. As it was searching my computer, I saw the names of the stuff that I can not see on my computer. My pepakura folder, armor references, wedding photos and all the other folders I had made were showing up while Malware was scanning. Now I just gotta make it so that this stuff reappears on my computer again.

As far as my armor goes, I am now home from work for the next 3 days and I am hoping to have BOTH thighs 100% finished and am hoping to start on another piece. I would like to get both the bicep and forearm done, but ForgedReclaimer has not created any female forearms. By the time my build is done, I will be modeling the ForgedReclaimer Armor Set! LOL Basically all the stuff I have made was modeled by him! haha

glad to hear there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. i have now made another shin that is the wrong size and really frustrating me. what file did you use and what size did you make yours? getting really frustrated.. the file i used i was able to get the right size vertically and so it was looking good till i got to the ankle area and it ended up looking like a pair of bell bottoms. ankle flair was just too much.

Yeah, I too noticed that the shins seem to have some flair as well. That did bother me, but I am hoping that once I have the boots on, it will take away from that since the boots are pretty bulky. When I measured for mine, I did it with a 12 inch height so I made it 305mm in pepakura. I also used ForgedReclaimers file. You should have figured that out from my previous post since I said that all the armor pieces I am building are his models. :p

Oh, and look at this pic: http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/%5CAUTOIMAGES%5CMF18632lg.jpg if you look closely at the bottom of the shin pieces near the ankle where the flair is, it looks like it's supposed to look that way. As I said, maybe the boots will help to not make it look so bad. It didn't seem right to me, but if you look close enough at the pictures, it appears to be correct.
