Materials appearing in Pepakura

Hello i have taken a .3dc file from a game put it into 3ds max added materials to make it look just right and this is what is looks like

next i exported it as a .3ds and as a .obj and when i opened them in pepakura i got this

where the materials added just show up as black so i tried to do it as a CADD file with .dxf

im trying to make a small model this is just the lower part and i cant seem to get the materials to show up right i have even tried messing with the materials in 3ds max and that didnt help if any ideas please help and thank you to those who do
 
i have figured it out i had to convert the dds materials file to a jpg and it showed right up so for anyone else having this problem try that and see if it works for you as well
 
A .3ds can be exported with the texture data with it. (.jpg/.png/...)
If you export it to .obj you have to check that it exports with texture data and will have to open the .obj with the same path the texture had before. Also there will be a .mtl file next to the .obj (this is a small file that sais where your texture was loaded from)

And you can choose in pepakura itself to import the right texture. But you can only load a one texture mesh...
