Hey! I had another thread when I was going to try and do this out of foam, but I have completely scrapped that idea and decided to start over. Instead of polluting the old thread and trying to go anywhere I have started a new one!

---------

Here is the MK2 Helmet (model from ForgedReclaimer), this is the Jorge Specific one that includes the add-on's in one pep file.

Here is where I was after pepping all saturday night:

Here is the progress as of right now, and I am currently starting to pep inwards for the face shield.

Howdy everyone, Here is another update. I'm tired (hands are sore from folding paper all day!) So here is where I stand as of 2 am June 21st.

This part was scaring me right until the last flat surface on the bottom tied it all together and made it quite beautiful. Not sure how I'll be able to directly keep this detail once I start doing surface work, but it does a TON to keep the correct shape on the back of the helmet.

This part is STILL scaring me, but I just spent about 5 minutes looking at the pep file, I think it'll do the same thing when its done as the back did, complete the compound shape and add structural strength.

The bottom still sits really wide, this is what makes me sure that mask/chin are going to complete the compound shape and make it work. What is cool is that this is the standard pep size, and I'm feeling that I'll have no problem putting it on and off when it is completed.

That is all for now, comments questions, suggestions or complaints?

Also, anyone have any comments on the quality of my pepwork? is this good enough to use as a base thus far?

thanks, nothing new today, worked late and I gotta be up for work again early tomorrow. Hopefully some stuff tomorrow! :D

Yeah your pepakura looks really good, just a warning, scaling in the future might be beneficial because it sucks to have to redo an entire piece because it is too big or too small, believe me i have made that mistake...

Yeah for sure. I actually looked at the scaling and realized that it appeared to be dead on for my giant melon! :D

the body however I think I need to scale up a bit, that seems to be problematic fitting it on the paper though, gonna have to unfold a few parts again and see about making that work though D:

Yay, Update!!!

Soo after a few more hours of inhaling super glue, and a bit of hot glue to plug up holes and help attach things (such as the jaw). I have a front to this helmet. My brother says it looks big, I agree, however I have a huge head and feel that once I put some padding inside this will be just perfect size. It looks and feels to be similar in size as my Full face Mountain bike helmets.

Enough typy/typy, here is a picture :D

The mask is actually only attacked to the jaw by the middle there, and thus is the wrong shape and not holding the jaw to its fully correct shape yet. I love how the helmet is slowly closing in on the bottom as I add the rest of the parts. It is pretty neat how that happens, so much cool structure. I will likely finish this pep up on monday, maybe even resin it if it is warm enough out!

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy!

Despite getting quite ill this weekend and missing some time at work. I was able to finish the pep. Like just on time, Hopefully it is nice and warm during the day and I can try my hand at resin.

the bottom jaw is definitely a bit tweaked, this happened from some crappy work on the visor area, if I ever pep this model again I will be editing the visor area to be as simple as possible and pepping it that way. I hope to be able to resin and glass it, then via a heat gun tweak it back. I can't see anything major then that, I see a couple minor things that will get evened out after resin/glass/rondoing it.

Hope to update with resin next.

Wewt, starting putting resin on today, my resin smells like a super glue I used to use, its nice. I Mask up right when I'm painting it on then I can walk away and breath fresh air!

I'm finding that the resin is curing VERY quickly in the cup though in the direct sunlight, soo I'm going to definitely use much less, and a bit less hardener, and maybe not in direct sunlight.. I have the back and top resined, and I'll be putting the resin on the front, after I do that depending on how much of the day is left I'll go grab some more brushes and finish up. I plan to glue the fibreglass inside with spray adhesive (I have the stuff, seems like a great way to speed the process up), then Rondo the fibreglass into the helmet. Then by next weekend I should get to start sanding and detailing.

Nothing really exciting, but it has resin on it now, waiting for it to cure, bottle says 1-1/2 hours, it definitely isn't cured yet, so I'm leaving it in the sunlight now to dry up. I've used up the brushes I bought, of to canadian tire to see if they actually sell the crap brushes in a bag.

get to it evil, NO EXCUSES!

So, Appears I am out of spray adhesive, and the resin is still curing (tacky to the touch). I'm going to let the resin completely cure before I rondo the inside, so maybe after work one of these days this week I can get the glass in, and rondo'ed, then I hope to be doing sanding and detailing by the weekend.

So I really liked the super glue I used at first, the hot glue worked "ok" for the end, definitely cheaper to hot-glue, but I find its quite a stringy mess. Any suggestions on a good adhesive that bonds the paper without being thick (like hot glue is), but cheaper in volume then super glue?

Two things to keep in mind. First, I've had the same issues with the resin and I would suggest mixing no more that 1-2 ounces at a time.
Second thing. While the spray adhesive will drastically cut down your time, it is far from reliable. Spray adhesives deteriorate over time. What will happen is that because your bondo is adhered to the fiberglass and not the paper, when the spray adhesive fails, the bondo will crack and fall away from the paper. You are better off to stick with the traditional methods of fiberglassing rather than risk all your work failing over time.

awesome, thanks. yeah I was making very small amounts, I just had WAY to much hardener.

Its going nice, going to mud/glass it tomorrow hopefully(if it is warm enough).

Quick question, are you sure that's the MK2 version? i think that's actually the MK1 i released before reach released. Or have i put my MK1 in the MK2 file again lol.

The pep work looks good, i like seeing peps with other colors for some reason it looks cool lol.

No work today, It was torrential downpour rain when I came home from work. I can't wait to get the resin/rondo fibre mix in.

Great build so far, keep up the good work. One quick question tho, one of the other posters mentioned that spray adhesive can be an unreliable way to adhere the fiberglass cloth during hardening, but don't you fully penetrate the cloth with the resin or rondo so it is still the resin adhering to the inside of the piece, not the spray glue any more?
Sorry if the question is a little bit confusing, but that is how I plan on hardening my kit when it gets to that point.
