Hi everyone! I just finished my MA37 Halo Reach nerf Assault rifle.
it is based off a nerf recon.

I credit my inspiration as well as the ammo counter graphic completely to skylow and his project (link; http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/27265-Nerf-Reach-Assault-Rifle-PIC-HEAVY )

the one thing however i noticed when looking at his project was he had almost no progress pics or instructions on how he built his rifle. I do just for you 405th!

so please comment ask and inquire about my build.

NOTE; my rifle does not function as i used a broken nerf recon, so it is just a functioning prop... however the only changes needed to make it function is to use pvc pipe for the barrel instead off a dowel, and to leave the reload slider on the gun. (my friend AJ built one like this with my help so i know it works)

here are my progress pictures and explanations for the project;

when building you need to cut a few things off the recon as shown;

after that you use a combination of MDF and quarter inch plywood

0709111007-Copy.jpg

you need to cut the grip piece and screw it into the bottom of the grip and the cut down stock

0709111033-Copy.jpg

you then need to cut the side pieces out of quarter inch and glue/screw them to the side of the gun and stock

0709111032-Copy.jpg

it is neccesarry to shim one or both sides of the stock to keep the box square

0709111049-Copy.jpg

you then cut the back and top pieces of the box out of quarter inch

0709111054-Copy.jpg

0709111318a-Copy.jpg

you then bondo the box to fill in the cracks and add a square piece with a 45 degree angle on both sides

0709111329a-Copy.jpg

then add the dome shaped pieces behind the box.

0709111335-Copy.jpg

drill a hole and glue in a 3/4 dowel or pvc pipe fore the stock brace

0709111544-Copy.jpg

then sand and shape the stock piece, driling a 3/4 hole in it and glueing it onto the pipe. then cut the clip ( i layered quarter inch)

0709111606.jpg

cut the grip mount and the grip, and for the cove piece on the back of the grip i cut a piece out of a ziplock container.

0709111740.jpg

then cut 2 of each of the barrel pieces out of 3/4 mdf and glue them together for the right thickness.

0709111756.jpg

use a stationary sander to shape the barrel pieces

0709111959b.jpg

to achieve the cutout in the front of the gun, i simply cut the whole piece in half a little back from the front of the piece, then took the front piece, and cut the center out of it, then glued it back on. i then cut and glued in the barrel and top pin. if you want your rifle to function, simply drill all the way through the piece and insert a piece of 3/4 pvc pipe for your barrel. align it with the nerf barrel when mounting and your gun will fire.

0709111959a.jpg

i used hot glue to attach the barrel pieces and is icredibly sturdy.

0709112142.jpg

then just sand and paint. (note; i used very thin cardboard to add the details on the stock and the ammo counter.

the ammo counter itself is a cardstock counter with clear plastic in front of it.

this is my friend AJ with his AR that he built with my help (his functions)
and yes he looks young we are both 16 (i know that you dont usually see many people under like 20 on the forum)

Hmmm.........I may have to refer back to this thread to figure out how to do this. I've been wanting to modify a nerf gun, but I just have no clue where to start! I have costumes, but I am practically weaponless. XD All I have is the laser tag plasma rifle and plama pistol for weapons.

That nerf gun really seems to work well for the AR, but what about a DMR? I would like to have both the AR and DMR. :p

Sweet tutorial on the deconstruction of the original rifle. Lovin the rifle. Keep up the awesome work man.
