This is my attempt at the Reach M9 High Explosive Grenade. I plan on making a mold to cast alot of these... and maybe manage to explode one as well (though I WILL NOT be posting that here.) So, let's start. Here's what I want to achieve

First off, i need a frame. I saw these at Walmart and thought instantly- GRENADE!!!!!

Who doesn't like Coke and polar bears. I mean, Come on!!! Next we peel off the flashy stuff. I then fill it with plaster of paris. This keeps the bottle rigid so construction is alot easier.

Next, the fragmentation plates. I used foam. Later I'll resin it to harden and seal the foam.

I drew lines on the bottle to space the frag plates. It's in a "star" configuration so each line is 72 degrees away from each other.

Then, we add the plates with hot glue.

This is what I've got so far. Tomorrow I hope to attach the trigger and then after christmas, I plan on making the mold. I'll keep ya'll posted! Thanks for lookin'

That is one sweet looking GRENADE. I love the amount of thought that went into this.

going to troll a lil, but if u were going to sell on how much will u want :|

I have no idea yet. Once I establish all the details (materials, time, etc.) I'll make a note that I'm selling in the classifieds. But again, it won't be until after christmas.

I appreciate the support. I wanted a nice "easy" project to take a break from my armor. I felt a grenade was the appropriate option. I've actually been thinking about this build for a year now. The only problem was I had only one coke bulb and it was part of my coke collection. So I had to wait a whole year until I could buy some more!

The grenade's main construction is finished!!! Here's the progress.

The majority of this build is foam, of course. I have some cleaning to do yet but for the most part, this build is done. The mold I plan to make is going to made from Smooth Cast silicone rubber. In order to do that, I'm pretty sure I need to seal the foam to prevent the rubber from sticking to the foam. I've heard of plasti-dip some people use fiberglass resin. If anyone has any recommendations, please drop a line. I really want this turn out good.

looks great Fudz! thats some great foam work... although at my walmart they dont have those little coke pods. but the cunsruction of the grenade is basic, so i will be good if i were to build something like this later...

keep it up:)

Here's the grenade painted. I'm still debating how I'm going to seal the foam so I can use the silicone rubber to mold this bad boy. Any suggestions would be a HUGE help!!!

That's weird that they don't have any. They're so perfect it's almost as if coke wanted me to make one into a grenade... ;)
But your right, all you need is a spherical base and the principle is the same. Thanks for the support!

I want one !!

I really hope I can manage to mold this. If so, I foresee quite a few being made. I just hope the mold compound works on sealed foam... :/

You can mold foam, I did it on my EOD helmet where I made the neck seal I sealed it with Plasti Dip paint, just make sure you seal up the areas behind the foam details the silicone will manage to get behind them

That's perfect! Ill have to go find some Plasti dip. Appreciate the help!!!

I never found any of these bottles at my walmart's. would you happen to have the diameter, so I can find a suitable replacement base?

The bottle diameter is a little under 4 inches. But UNSC LT commander is right, there really is no replacement.

Wow! This a really cool grenade. By far it's the best I've seen. Awesome work and I can't wait till you get a mold of the sucker!

Why thank you! I'm really hoping to get a mold going soon. I want to practice on the grenade before I do a helmet. But with school coming up again funds are a little tight

Genobreaker
Thanks, maybe I'll find them somewhere else.My walmart has never sold them, according to the people that work there.

Here's hoping!. Worst case scenario is using a green styrofoam ball as the base. I suppose you could use plaster or bondo to give it a smooth surface. I did the same thing for an earlier project making halo starships. Here's the link if you're interested. http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/33484-Any-one-else-making-halo-starships Either way, good luck!!
