Hello, I'm new to 405th.
So I was wondering, I just finished pepping my Grenadier helmet, and this is the second one Ive made. The first one was too small so I made it bigger... but I think its too big!? How do I know if its too big? Its like a bucket inside.

Ignore the top of the helmet! it was warped, but I fixed it. I'm not planning on resining these, of course. This is my 3rd helmet.

From the pic it looks a 'little' over sized, but it mostly comes down to how you scaled it and whether or not its comfortable if you put it on. I'd say that since you can't put the piece into perspective by putting it next to another piece that is the right size for you, your best option would probably b to put it on and have someone take a photo so you can judge if its too big or not. Don't forget that you have to put padding in. My helmet is too big in places but I've got to put a heap of padding around my head to make it snug. What scaling method did you use for the bigger one?

I scaled it by looking at the long visor piece and seeing how long it was on the paper, then I put it up to my head... from there I just upped the size. If you understand my weird method.

Lol, yeah I get what you did. Because you've scaled by eye there's a good chance that even if it fits, it'll be out of proportion with any other pieces that you make (its just hard to get them to match, i did that with my first go at my wrist guards and forearms). If it were me I'd have one more go at it using one of the methods for scaling that are in the forum stickies. They're pretty darn accurate if you get it right and between them and the scaling form in Pep Designer you should be set. Believe me i know its a pain trying to get it right but when you do it looks awesome. Plus, most of the time you won't wind up looking like a bobble head if you know what i mean =)

Haha yeah, when I put it on it was almost big enough to fit two heads lol. Thanks for the advise, it helped allot! I actually have both my knee pieces done and my shoulder, and they came out really nice... so that helped with the helmet frustration. I'm considering making CQB or Air Assault for my next helmet.

Ok.... there is no "Standard size" What most people try to do is scale to something that isn't them....(What they scale it too, I have no clue...) Anyway we really can't tell you if it is too big or too small. You have to make to size to fit your head... If it fits comfortable then you have it right.... Just literally measure your head (or whatever other limb you want) and scale it as closely as you can in designer.

Haha yeah, scaling does suck. And thanks, yours look awesome! I'm hoping my 4th build will come out good

By default most pepakura helmet size fits an adult head without any resize. The first helmet that you've done may not fit through the opening because the edges are needed to support the helmet. Most helmets need the opening enlarged after the helmet is hardened. You do this by cutting it using a rotary tool.

Here is a guide that may help. You need at least 2 inches gap between your head and the helmet. If the helmet sides are more than 2 inches, then your helmet is too large.
