Hi all,

First post on here, first build using Pep, and my first spartan outfit too obviously :)

Probably wont be a quick build as I dont have too much spare time to get stuck in - but I thought id share with the group what I get upto, as I do it :)

Will upload my helmet pics in a bit once I get 5 mins.

Cheers all, Chris.

Good luck Chris. The title of your thread is absolutely spot on. "Slowly". If this is your first time using Pep then it is vital that you go slowly, and thoroughly research every single step :] It'll be well worth it in the end!

Cheers Jay :)

Yeah its going to be a slow slog i think - theres myself and friend that are building at the same time.... - aiming to be fully done by next halloween now to show sunny Mansfield, Notts how Spartans paint the town red....

& it gives me plenty of time to have a play and get it right. Fortunatly i have some time spare on night shifts atm so im filling it with pep work for now ;)

Ill post a few pics of my parts so far below (soon as i figure out how to - watching tutorial as i type...) though im unsure on the helmets scale so that may be redone at some point;

And last of all because i found this for sale in town, and find it funny: CALL OFF DUTR!

LOL Call of Dutr... that's awesome.
I had to redo my helmet 3 times as I got the scale wrong! Unfortunately it's one of those things, you have to scale it, then make it to find out if you did it right or wrong :/ Best of luck to you though, the pep work is looking nice and sharp. Keep it up!

Cheers guys, hopefully will have some more bits and some fiberglassing to show by the weekend :)

the Recon shoulder took an age to build - and is so fiddly its unreal :S

Thanks for the kind replies :)

For my Pep iv used pretty heavyduty cardstock - 200gsm i think - and scored the fold lines with a blunt scalpel blade to help with the folding :) and use Locktite GEL superglue - i found its a bit thicker so no running, and gives about 5-7 seconds of movement before setting solid :)

Iv got another 4 night shifts next week so i might have a few bits done during my down time hours between tasks.

Got my armguards to play with this weekend, and i think my chest should be the next piece afterwards... OR....

Im thinking of doing a Mk VII EVA helmet - anyone had any sucess with it/got a decent pep file? Cant seem to see it in the database... & any suggestions on the visor?

I don't know any good file unlucky, however for the visor you may want to see some tutorial about vacuum forming on youtube, it is probably the best way to make it. At first it might look hard and tricky but it's easier than it looks like.

I've seen H3 and HR EVAs that turned out nicely. Vacuum Forming as mentioned above is your friend, but getting a really good see-through one can be tricky as bondo can separate under the temperatures vac-tables can get to. However, Stillus' EVA was done with layered Motorcycle visors, and while it wasn't super accurate, it had a really cool look to it and didn't require a vacuform table.

Also, very nice pepakura work!

this is great work so far and remember, slowly is often the best way to get a really good suit of armour regardless of the material!

Im familiar with vacuum forming - and ill see what is on youtube thanks, but didnt really want to build a full rig if i can help it - the missus will bust a nut if i start building industrial machinary in the conservatory (a shed is on my list of things to do, but not with this weather ;) )

Im guessing you use the pep file dome as the mould for the plastic?

holy molly, just realized you are from Mansfield. I LIVE IN NOTTINGHAM! Near Wilkinson Street Tram Stop!

BOOM! good lad :D good ode midlands... you heading to Emcon in march? Im aiming to get mine done for then, let me know when your in full gear ill come check it out ;)

Yeah, ill defo be going. Should be a laugh plus two Spartan are always better than one! Ill let you know when I am in full gear and in the city centre :D

Hey all -

not been on for a week or so due to laptop issues (mainly that I no longer have one that can be classed as windows friendly, unless you class the one it flew out of...)

BUT iv been busy with Pep, So I borrowed the missus's and thought id upload a few pictures to show my progress...

Both bracer's are done, Mk 6 but ill be modding them i think, You can just see where I lost a piece on the right one, since the pic iv made a bespoke piece to replace it: (as I also don't have a printer atm - a year after we moved house and im still not fully unpacked :S)

Redone my hand-guards as I found they were monstrously oversized:

20131111_232000_zps7bea5945.jpg

my right thigh completed, yet it looks so unfinished - think ill have to do the rubber seals trick on this to make it look up to scratch - im also fitting a couple of heavy duty magnets inside when i fibreglass to allow me to have an attaching pistol, just a couple of rare magnets in the barrel section and that should be done (ill be modding the armour too to with a thin piece of metal, if its touching the magnets it will be magnetised itself, but will look like a scratchplate where the gun attaches... clever huh?)

Last Pic shows everything iv done so far -

20131112_044854_zps4f41d526.jpg

This week iv got 4 nights spare so:Ill be working on a couple of the Reach Grenades (depending how they turn out I'm contemplating a bandoleer of them on my chest-piece) Emile's knife (that I may be attaching to my forearm, shoulder or back, depending where I fancy), Right shin, Right Boot, and beginning my chest....

roll on Dec and pay day so I can start fibre glassing...

Thanks All, Marshall

Oh I almost forgot - found this walking home late last week... immediately wanted a shotgun.

Quick update:

2 nights and 1 massive mistake later, iv pepped my chest. You might be able to see where its a bit nackered up on the left shoulder from my reversing the build once i realised i was building it inside out :S

The colours are just by chance of what was in the local stationers but i kinda like it... may be the beginnings of my colour scheme. Neway - pictures;
