Hey guys! Been a while since I posted for myself, I've mostly been lurking and working haha. I finished a Halo 4 Scanner helmet and a basic Mandalorian helmet for which I recieved payment, unfortunately I was under a very tight schedule so I haven't a lot of end-game pics. I also finished Benjamin and Clayton Carmines' helmets and donated them to my local Gamestop, but again the last few weeks of work were under a tight schedule so I don't have final photos.

Anyway, I'm posting today because I need help. I've just been commissioned to build Loki's scepter from Avengers, and while I have the file, I discovered the replacement printer we got after the one I had been using, can't handle cardstock. It's a bottom-tray feed and cardstock is just too heavy to feed up and around, it would jam and I'd be SOL for fixing it, so that's a no-go. Is there any other way I can get this printed, say by printing on regular paper and gluing to the cardstock, or using carbon paper to transfer the lines?

PS I'll end up just using this thread for progress photos of the staff, and if asked I'll host what pictures I do happen to have of the four helmets.

You could always print it to a PDF, put it on a USB drive, then take it and a few sheets of cardstock to some place that offers printing services (like Kinko's). I think FedEx offers printing services. Also, there are probably a number of local, non-chain stores that offer printing services.

I took a bit of your advice, Carpathia, and got it in PDF format to print externally. My mother works at Ricoh Document Technologies, so she offered to print it for free, however this is a one-time solution and I'm looking into a more long-term one such as low-price printing shops nearby. I will update this post once I get the pages, and then I'll get to work and hopefully remember to keep progress images haha!

Alright! Sorry for the double post, but I've made postable progress on the scepter. I used a file from Nintendude, and seriously do not recommend this file to anyone else. It's got a lot of open edges, parts phasing through one another, and is wholly enclosed- but that one is the staff itself... On with the post though! I'll skip the cutting and scoring photos, since you all know what that's like.

Here is the main length of the scepter, the sides come together to form the tube that is the main rod.

This is said rod. It's a little tweaked, but that couldn't be avoided. As you can see, there aren't many fold lines- the whole file is like that. Nintendude locked the file into Pep Viewer as well, meaning I couldn't change a thing :(

Early shot of building the handle and blade assembly, this is where the open edges and parts phasing through happens. The handle sits on top of the rod- rather, the rod sits an inch inside the enclosed handle...

Here's the assembly nearly finished, a couple tabs to button up and a few unconnected parts to wiggle in between the right-most blade and the centerpiece.

The full height of the scepter. I'm six-foot and it comes from my knees to just above my head. A whopping 45-47 inches, depending on how I place the handle and rod together.

Finally, this is one of the four round pieces that hold the third blade on. It was a nightmare to put together, so I think I will just be molding and casting four of it and sanding the results to shape rather than assembling the other three.

I have a few more detail items, such as the crystal and mounting structures completed, but I feel as though I am overloading the post already. I'll be back in a day or two with the finished pepwork, then hopefully it is on to resin.

Well, it's been a bit again, but here goes some more progress now that it is warm enough for resin and bondo:

First up, the bits and pieces of the staff/scepter

My way of draining extra resin that I didn't want pooling in the handle(I would have preferred to keep the resin in the handle as coating, but the cure time was around 45 minutes since it's still rather chilly!)

And finally the "bits" taped into approximate place on the upper staff, sans the third blade and it's brackets(which I will mold and cast later :p)

Thanks for lookin' guys, and give a post if you have any tips on how to harden the inside of the upper staff. I'm thinking slushing rondo around, but I'm not sure how well it will cover such a complex form...

ITS THE LOKI POKEY STICK. This tends to be a problem everyone has when doing weapons. How to harden the inside. my recommendation which I have been playing with. I bondo my props. remove a small section of the tip. pour Resin into the hole, slush around and let the excess out. Then when you bondo it build up and recreate the tip. Another more expensive way is expanding foam. But it seems a pain with alot of chances of mistakes.

Well, there is a few holes. I was thinking slush several coats of resin, one of rondo, then fill with expanding foam a little bit at a time.

Nice smooth blades ready for another sanding and touch ups:

And a little closer of a shot:

Then I just gotta finish the handle areas, small bits, and the main length of the staff and I can paint.

I forgot to check in, sorry. This will be one of, if not the, last posts before I leave for U.S. Air Force basic training.

I finished the staff. In all it's glory, here it is:

The gold is like that the whole way down. I did the gold with Vallejo Old Gold Liquid Metal paint, the silver with Citadel's Leadbelcher metallic, a clear coat, then blackwash. The crystal was the Leadbelcher as a base, then mists of Citadel's old Ice Blue and Regal Blue paints, one final mist of Leadbelcher, and two clear coats.

Hopefully I'll have a photo of it with the recipient soon, but I unfortunately cannot make any promises. Thanks for taking a look, friends.
