in the word of DBZ "oh shut up napa go have fun or something I don't care how."

two hours later.

"napa where is your armor."

answer you took it and did this with it.

Oh öhm ok now i got a little problem within the dipping stage!

The Details i attached wiht spray adhesive to the COD are falling apart or get warped extremely :confused
I used the spray dip and did very thin layers to build up but couldnt prevent it. I also tryed on a crap piece the thinned dip out of a can for carbrushing.
But got the same effect so im not sure what exactly went wrong. Will see if some heros of the 405th may could give the answer to this mysterium :rolleyes

That is why I have decided against using the plasti dip. When I made my first suit, I did not use plasti dip and when I painted my armor, I just used acrylic paint. I had no problems with anything. I even sprayed on a couple light layers of clear coat afterwards and it turned out just fine.

When I started on my Hayabusa awhile back, I made one of the thighs and sprayed plasti dip on it. It started to come apart at the seams where I glued it and and I now have to redo the whole thing in order for it to look as good as I want it. XD

It seems like you DON'T HAVE TO use the stuff, however, it might depend on what kind of paint you are using. If using spray paint, you may want to seal the foam. If you are using acrylic paint or even airbrush, you might be able to get away without using the plasti dip. You will STILL want to paint a couple layers of black over everything in order to help make the actual color you want to make your armor stand out more. That is what I did with my first suit. I did 2 coats of black paint, of course allowed it to dry between applications, then I started to paint it the final color.

My suit looked just fine in the end: :)

I have come across other people who had the same problem.......pieces seperating after using the plasti dip. :\

Well, that's about all the advice I can give. :p

awww! Thank you for being part of this and i hope my armor will come out as good as yours already does :)
hm i thought of just spraying over the foam but i compared the results with and without a sealer and would like to go with one or better said, i have almost all sealed with it :rolleyes for the pieces which peeled of, not all fall apart, one shin came out without any problems and the other i had to reglue 70% of the craftfoam details. luckylie i always glued over the whole piece seams where the parts stick together before i was going to dip it. I tryed some combination to how much dip or adhesive i used and which combination worked best. i came to the point it has nothing to do with this -.-! i will change from the spray adhesive to loctite superglue like vshore100 showed me in his awesome thread ^^. This should work just fine to hold all where it has to be.

okay time to look it up, and it might take some time got the flu.

Sir ur always a great help to me and for sure to other people. Really Thanks man glad you are taking the time to help someones build to move on :)

Currently I am working on the colour scheme of the armor and i didnt expected it this difficult just choosing colours :p Have to wait for the next payday to get the colourset on my hands.

Until this time For Updates i have the shins, boots and the MKIV Helmet ready for upload. Just need to bring them in order which comes next and filling the space between now and the arrival of the ordered painting :D
till then an Update is about to come the next view days. Cheers and thx for checking out my Armor WIP.

In addition to this i Could finish Detailing my Carter Shoulder today. All that is now needed are some Magnets so i can finally attach it like the Hazop.
Will take pics of this the next view days, but before this i will Upate for the Helmet.

THX for reading and dont hesitate to comment, critism or ask questions. That´s what this Thread is made for so happy easter to you all :p.

look like those could fit on your forearms as well as shins.

for now it seems good to me :)

Almost an entire Month get past and now im back and ready to work ^^
I finally came up with a Method that wont need Plasti Dip and I will using it for the rest of this build and future projects! Thanks to HaloGoddess that she showed me her results without dip, Thanks ma´am :$

In detail i replace the Dip with some Liquitex acrylic colours. They are flexible when dry and waterproof. so they should also seal the foam with this kind-of-latex-surface and mostly they are much cheaper then Dip. I layered them until the foam colour wasnt seen anymore and I did really thick layers from 3-5. I used a brush and it leaves brushstrokes. You can get rid of the strokes if u are wetsand it. I wetsanded it several times and in the end i had a really metallic surface without any holes. If u got this surface u can grab an airbrush and then go for it. ATM i ordered my colourpack for the final scheme.
Till the time it arrives I will keep painting the armor silver and then wetsand the pieces. I tried ti take pictures but with a cam u cant see the difference very well between wetsanded and not wetsanded pieces. Maybe i find a way to show the difference later we will see :/

Now time for pics!

The Helmet will be the second piece i wont use plasti dip on and maybe i add some foamies on some heavy glued areas.
atm i have no idea if i use a motorycle Visor insert or heatform a acrylglass. LEDs will be blue and ventilation should get in there too.

Additional i have a little update on the painting. all of my colors arrived and im very excited to get my airbrush on it!
A complete overview about my color and how many steps i plan to take will come too if i have finished the first pieces painting.

So comment and subscribe guys and guysinen so see ya til next time :D

PS: my buddy got his thread started today so he will show his armor in his own thread. If ur interested, link will be added in the Sig.

yes your friend and you should do your first con together and then do a contest were the two of you fight it out lol. nothing like two Spartans fight it out on stage.

In case you need some more reference pics, there are many that can be found here:
http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/28023-Official-Halo-Reach-Reference-Thread-*Pic-Heavy-Spoilers*

I know you are already pretty far into your build, but the last page will at least show off lots of the minor details like lighting and the undersuit. It also will give you lots of information on how to best take reference pics and cool tricks on how to improve them such as lowering your weapon.
Specific post here: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php...read-*Pic-Heavy-Spoilers*?p=701493#post701493

Anyways, for now, congrats on making it so far with your build, you are an inspiration to all of us who have not yet started!!!

Thats exactly what we were aiming for ;) not sure if we join a competition but if one of us may win, we will share the price between us xD

UPDATE 10: Boots Scratch build

Last but not least i found the time to show off my finished progress on the boots. In my Opinion the most difficult piece in my whole set of armor.
Thanks to Roxy who leads the way and after some trail and error i got them done on the third try. the first went so badly i dont even want to think about :$ ...

The big / left one is the second try and was to bulky. i looked like ronald mc donald with 2 of these ...
The right was the final try which came out very well.

That's some choice foam work. I just am mostly blown away that you pepped an entire helmet just for a reference. I sure hope you at least try to glass that helmet.

This build is looking great. I love the detail with the "foamies" I didn't use them on the chest portion of my suit and regret it now. :)
