Howdy guys, I'm almost to the painting stage of my helmet (I'll be posting pics soon.) I've stumbled into a couple questions though. Luckily my family owns a paint booth, equipment, tools etc. but I was curious of how to do the war torn look to an ODST helmet? And is their a certain color for it?
Last but not least a visor. Any tips on how to either build one or buy one? I have some dark tinted plastic that looks like a plastic window of some sorta. As a last dish effort I'm going to heat it up and bend it but I was curious of easier ways.

Ok My question for you is What type of ODST are you building Halo 2 or Halo 3? For the war torn the way I do it is a base coat of silver then put a paste (I use toothpaste) in areas that I want the marks to be. Spray your top coats. Let it dray then with a damn cloth wipe off the paste leaving the silver behind. There is no set color though most use silver for a metal base.

For a better result of the weathering effect i prefer a first coat of silver / chrome paint and after that the colors you prefer.
if the drying process is done us sanding paper and scratch your details in... its destroy the top layers of colors without harm the silver or chrome paint. its looks fantastic.

for the thigh i used a sheet of paper, chrome paint and a painting brush. spray some paint on top of the paper sheet and let it dry for up to 20 seconds. stroke your brush over the still wet chrome paint and spread the brush on a clean sheet of paper. now use the minimum amount of chrome paint on the brush for your edge detailing and surface coloring. it gives the grey surface a nice shine like metal.

the method with the toothpaste or vaseline is well known to me but i dont think that the results looks that great. but its okay for small amounts and thin lines.

the last step should be a small brush for acrylic paints and black spraypaint or acrylic. now color the scratches for a better result.

the second part

in these videos i show both methods. the first one show some scratches in wet paint. but i recomment to do this after the paint is dry enough. the sanding paper should have a grid lower than 50

Don't do silver, it's too shiny. Go with aluminum. It is a little more dull and looks more battle worn rather than fresh metal.

With your visor your better off make your own with a vacuum forming table you can redneck rig one easily here's a video how-
I bought this visor off a member though

Its a good visor but I'm probably going to have to heat shape and cut it to fit :confused so it is easier to make vacuum forming table instead there are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube

You could take a 1mm piece of plastic or plexi, cut it down to the appropriate size (using the pep file as a template) and glue it together. Glue it at the edges and use shims on the inside using thinner plastic. Give it a good spray coat if you need to and it should be golden.

It's a halo 3 helmet. Depending on how it goes depends on how far I go with it. I'm wanting to eventually do a whole suit. I'll check into the details for painting. Someone from here a long long time ago built an odst that I've been trying to build it after. If anyone knows how to make one or is selling please let me know price isn't a problem. I plan to make this helmet extremely detailed and I don't want to make a noob mistake with a visor.

I will definitely be following your method harican, seems easy to do but look very nice. With your method do you think I could use a piece of metal or something close to cut indentions into the bondo?

Give me a couple days and ill link photos to photobucket and show y'all the plexi I have at my house, also the helmet etc.
