[Intro]

Hello guys and gals!

Well it did not take long for me to start on a new project! :D Yeah, I´am simply that kind of person. Anyway as you might have noticed this won´t be another Halo project.... :O .... don´t worry I still love Halo but I just want to try making something else with a different technique. So I choose to make the I.M.C. pilot "armor" from Titanfall since it looked pretty easy to make and I personally like the design of it. I will be using foam for the armor but the helmet will be made using the pepakura method since I think it would be a pain in the butt to make a helmet out of foam. But that´s just my opinion so don´t kill me for it. :D Well, I will try to make it as accurate as possible cause you know, I have been making "cosplays" since 2009 and I succesfully finished 2 armors and a helmet so I already know most things (what to use, how to make certain things...etc.) but I´am still not at a level I want to be! Yeah it sounds a bit stupid but this is just how I am - a stubborn perfectionist. But there is another reason and that one is sooo childish. So basically I want to win a cosplay contest.... Don´t judge me! *runs away crying. The contest I entered back in March (The first one I have entered.) I finished 5th with my Spartan IV (Link - http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/39576-Chiefer-joins-the-Spartan-IV-Program). People and the jury liked it since it was something new and fresh because until now nobody made anything like that. I mean seriously here in Slovakia everybody makes these "textile cosplays" which is nice but every year it´s almost the same. But let´s leave it at that. So the next contest is held in September so I have only 5 months to finish this but I hope that the work will be done faster with foam! Oh, and another thing that I will add to this armor will be LEDs. Why? People seem to like it especially when you can turn it off and on. :D So even if I will look like a walking Christmas decoration, who cares.

Enjoy the show!

Please post tips or critiques only! And please write the truth!

I mean seriously sometimes telling the truth about what is wrong with something can help and don´t worry I won´t get angry because of it. :)

And one last thing. I will post weekly updates but if you are impatient and wanna see my progress you can check/like my Facebook page where I post daily updates!

[Update no.1]

Well first off, I know it hasn´t been a week yet but I thought that I will post updates every week on sunday and I guess I start today. :D Anyway, since I want this to be game accurate as possible then I guess here comes the rule of 6P - "Proper planning prevents piss poor performance." Yeah. So it would be good to do some planning first. Well like I said before the helmet will be made using the pepakura method - I know it might be easier to make it out of foam but I just simply don´t have the experience right now so I guess I just stick to what I know for now. The visor won´t be that big of a problem since I found a E-Shop which sells different colored plexiglass but I also want to "light up" the visor using LEDs but I just don´t know how to do that. I talked about that with my dad and he has a plan on how to do that but it would be good to hear someone elses opinion or tip. :D The LEDs on the other places won´t be a problem atleast. The armor will be made out of foam but I guess I should watch some more tutorials on how to work with it. I already found and ordered some foam floor mats but man... they are expensive - 30 euro (cca. 40 USD) for a 120x120 cm (4 pieces of 60x60cm). Well I hope it will be enough for the whole armor. On the other hand foamies are really cheap and again I already ordered some - 20 pieces (One is 25x20cm big.) for 5 euro (cca. 8 USD) without the shipping price. You know what I guess I will make the finger plates and the handplates (and maybe the forearms) using cardboard since they look pretty easy to make. The undersuit will be a bit of a problem since I did not find anything that resembles it or maybe I should just make it from scratch. But I guess I will do some more thorough research. The gloves won´t be a problem and I already have a scarf that is identical to the ingame one. When it comes to the boots I will reuse the ones that I used for my Spartan IV. I only have to remove the stuff from it and clean it up a little bit. For the pouches well... I either buy them or again make them out of scratch. Last but not least - every soldier needs a gun... or guns :D I still did not decided on which primary weapon I will make but I already know that I will make the Hammond P2011 pistol. I´am still thinking or deciding between R-97 Compact SMG and R-101C Carbine as a primary weapon. I don´t know which method I will use to make them but then again I will leave it like that because I want to finish the armor first which is more important.

Well that would be it but don´t worry I will do some more thinking about this so yeah...oh and one last thing. It is more of a reguest so basically I don´t have the game and I don´t want to pirate it so if there would be a good soul that could send me some ingame reference pictures of the armor and the weapons, it would be really appreciated. :D Now seriously, that is all for today so see ya guys and gals in a week!

[Update no.2]

So... well.... I don´t know where to start! xD I can tell you that there is a lot, especially pictures. As you will see on the pictures I already have the helmet pepped, resined and 45% fiberglassed. Actually the helmet might look hard to make but ... it´s not! It was actually pretty easy to make - 3 days in total and this is V2 because V1 was just too large. xd You know how it goes plus I´am really bad at scaling helmets. Like I already said many times before I want this to be super duper accurate.. and badass! First I made the base of the helmet and only them I moved onto making the "top piece" and the "headset". It was a bit tricky to attach them but in the end it came out pretty good and it holds together too soo not complaining that much. But as you might notice I had to cut a bit here and there especially the "headset". Before working on the side "attachments" and the "antenna" I added some details using 3 mm cardboard. First I went with the area around the cheeks since I thought they look simple.. but gosh I was wrong! xD But I think It came out really nicely and I only have to do some minimal detail work with bondo. next I worked on the "filter" located on the right side. First I filled the hole with some cardboard and made a simple "thing" that looked like the on in the game. Yes it is inaccurate but I assure you that I will finish it up with some bondo later. Next after looking and reference pictures from google I realised that the detail on the top piece is a bit off so I had to remake that one too. The only thing I did was cutting out that part and replacing it with some cardstock and adding a more accurate pice made out of cardboard. I know it would be impossible to make it 1:1 so I´am kinda OK with a 90% resemblence to the original. The details on the vents were the easyest to make but again I will do some more detailing on those later with bondo. The front was a bit of a pain but again in the end it came out nicely. Later I fixed the hole between the helmet and the headset with some cardstock and lastly I finished the vents on the side of the helmet. That would be all about the details and I really hope there are no more! :D Now let´s move onto the attachments. I choose to make them completely out of cardboard cause in my opinion it is more solid than just cardstock. Plus it would be a real pain to pep them. Well, they look good but I gonna have to fix them with some bondo later. By the way I plan to screw them onto the helmet and again later. Actually, this is my first time glueing cardboard on the inside of the helmet but if it helped preventing the helmet to warp and deform during the resin stage so I guess it was worth it. The only bad thing about it is that the helmet is now a bit heavier due to that. As always I applied two layers of resin onto the helmet or more like two layers of resin on the outside and only one layer on the inside. On the attachments I used fiberglass instead of resin cause it made them stronger. While waiting for them to dry I made the finger plates and the handplates out of cardboard but... damn... that was just tiresome. Still atleast they are simple not like the ones on Spartan IVs! And I even made the elbow armor of course for both sides. After the resin dried I cut out the place for the visor and cut a bit from the bottom so my head will fit in and yep it does. The only drawback are my glasses but I got used to having a hard time putting on my helmet while wearing glasses. :D Anyway the view is just .. BAD! And a month ago I was complaining about the view from the warrior helmet that it´s bad... well this is even worse! But I can somehow live with that. Next I went onto fiberglassing the helmet and the attachments plus I covered the finger plates, handplates and the elbow armor with two layers of fiberglass and again I had to wait till it dries. Fiberglassing the attachments did not came out the way I wanted but they are still "good". I cut the remaining fiberglass from all of the pieces and well that would be all that is. Actually I made some serious progress in a week... actually I started working on it a bit earlier than that but that´s just a small detail. Hopefully next week my EVA floor mats arrive so I could start working on the armor plus the helmet will be fiberglassed and I guess I will do some bondo work too. Oh and I already made a thorough search and I found quite a lot of army stuff for cheap AND they look just like the ones in the game! But I just don´t have enough money right now. xD Anyway that would be all from me so... Enjoy the pictures!

[Update no.3]

Well, it´s sunday again and that means - *epic hand movements* "Update time!" Before we start I just want to tell that there won´t be that many photos like in the first update because I did some more studying. You know finals are almost here and if I do the studying now I won´t have to deal with that later which means - more time to work on my armor! :D Anyway - "Shall we begin?" First off I added some fiberglass cloth on the inside on the elbows and handplates to make them more harder. Well I did the same with the Spartan IV handplates too for example. And yep after it dried I removed the unwanted cloth that was sticking out so it´s time to go and put some bondo on these parts. Next I made the forearm attachments of course on both hands. Well here I just want to say that they might look a bit bigger than the ones in the game BUT when everything will be put together and especially with the undersuit on me it will look just right! I´am 100% confident in that! :D Plus it is really hard to make armor cosplay in general because well... just cause it works in the game it doesn´t mean it will work in real life too. And that is something I have learned from my Spartan IV! There is only one change I made and that is I cut/split one of the forearm attachments into two so that I could work on it a bit more easily. I plan on putting them back together with some screws and I see no problem there. xd Anyway in the next step I covered them with two layers of fiberglass instead of resin. Yep just like the ones before. AND! Just fiberglass is better! But only on these cardboard parts or cardboard weapons in which you can´t put fiberglass cloth in the inside. But then again it might work for me but it might not work for you and we are not narrow minded people so everybody should use what suits him/her the best. (On the financial side too!) Next I "worked" a bit on the undersuit or more like bought a few things, but I will cover that in the next update. (They are still on the way to my house. xd) And I already have the boots for my cosplay. Yep, I´am gonna reuse the one from my Spartan IV. They look allright plus they look like army boots even though they are working boots plus they will only be used for cosplay and then again buying new army boots for 50 euros/ 60USD or so just to customize them for cosplay plus there is always the possibility it won´t work so I guess that way would be just too expensive for me. Anyway I removed everything from it and cleaned it up so now the only problem is how to attach the boot pieces on it! xd This is going to be a though nutt to crack but I will come up with something... eventually. lastly I did some foam work. Actually I only made the butt plate but I have to say that even though foam is cheaper it is really hard to work with or atleast to me. But then again I didn´t practice or watch any tutorials on how to do it properly and this is my very first foam armor part. I don´t want to brag about it, but I think it came out allright. In the end it was a very interresting week for me and I even tried out something new so... yeah! That is all for this weeks update! See ya guys and gals in the next one! Enjoy!
