nice work so far.

Thank you! I've started the torso so I'll have photos up either tonight or tomorrow.

Also on a side note, I just realized ZG's helmet was inverted haha. Good thing I caught that before I start building it!

----EDIT-----

While building the torso, I gave a blood sacrifice to the Daedra Lords... I hope I've pleased them :S

Hello everyone!

After cleaning up the blood from the carpet and bathroom, here's where the torso stands:

--MASSIVE UPDATE--

I apologize for the triple post but it's worth it!

I stayed up all night and worked 9 hours straight to finish the torso :D

I needed to modify it a little bit so that it would fit, so I cut down the side seams:

IMG_1021_zps49a12aa6.jpg

Then I put it on and placed duct tape where I needed the extra foam to go while tracing the edge:

Then placed the tape on paper and cut it out, which left me with this:

I also opened up the arm holes a lot so that I could actually move my arms and lay them at my side.

I'm extremely tired so I'm off to sleep for a good bit. I finished up the last of my foam so I'll need to get more and then the shoulders are next. Goodnight!

see this is why we need duck tape in skyrim.

It would be very useful haha, maybe a DLC for TES: Online?

Very nice so far man.
How did u manage to cut yourself?

Thanks!
I was sitting on the floor with my legs crossed cutting the foam and got a little careless. It was a fresh blade and once it got to the end of the foam mat (the piece was close to the edge) I didn't let off on my force and it just flew right into my shin. Legs bleed like crazy with the tiniest of cuts haha but it is pretty deep, nothing that needs stitches though.

No pictures today for I haven't been able to go supplies shopping, but I'll be doing that tonight. I'll also be ordering my 3D Printer here in a couple days so I'm VERY excited for that. I've decided on a Makerbot Gen 5 Replicator. Maybe I'll get into the casting business or print things out for people in the community.

Anyways, hopefully I'll have some progress pictures sometime tonight.

dragon lands in front of you hot key ducktape, as it's about to flame you, you go in for the kill and tape it's mouth shut causing it to choke to death...

3d printer huh, better make them small like dagger's or potion bottles or soul gems or ... (note to self grow some purple crystals)

I still haven't been able to get to the store :'( so here's a picture of the armor on me haha.

Looking quite intimidating there.

Haha thanks!

Alright so update time!

Not only was the helmet inverted but so are the shoulders (I think every file is inverted. Because these two are not symmetrical, they are the only files that needed fixing). I had already re-unfolded the shoulders when I noticed that they were inverted so I decided to just invert pattern. The helmet, however, I exported as an obj, re-imported the model and inverted the model, then unfolded it. I would have done this to the shoulders as well had I caught it before hand, but I've already spent a lot of time fixing it for foam so I just inverted the pattern and rearranged it.

If you look at the armor pictures from my OP and look at the files, you'll see they are inverted. Anyways here is the helmet after reloading the model:

and my really messy unfold for the shoulders:

Hopefully I'll get to the store sometime soon so I can continue the build haha. I am a little worried with the helmet. I've never made a foam helmet and I'm not sure if the scale will be good but we shall see.

Now that I come to think of it, I could have just flipped the templates over after cutting them out instead of inverting the pattern and all that..... I'm so slow sometimes xD

I have been developing a scaling technique as of late, if you wanted me to check your sizes send me the files as well as the width of your head (ear to ear).
It worked really well on my Defender helmet. Nice and snug.

Thanks, I would appreciate a second opinion.

THE FILE

My head is about 170mm wide from ear to ear. I have a method that uses the "measure distance between two points" tool in pep designer so I think it'll be good. I want it to be a snug fit so it's not flopping around or sliding if I quickly turn my head.

Thanks!

So I have checked the scale and you are almost bang on at 465mm high. I got 460mm so yeah not too much different at all and personally i'd add a few extra mil to compensate for the thickness of the foam.

if you can try and get a speaker somewhere in that bad boy and just play the dragon born song on a loop.

--Helmet Done!--

I finally made it to the store to pick up some foam. I managed to knock out the helmet today and let me tell you, the 6 spikes were sheer hell, getting harder as they reduced in size. BUT, the end result came out so much better than I could have hoped for. I was worried that the helmet would look misshapen and warped but to my surprise came out VERY well. I am very happy with the result. I have to go in with some caulking and shape the tips of the spikes a little bit and clean up the spiderweb of hot glue on the helmet. It also fits like a glove, thank you mawrTRON for double checking my scale!

I first built the mouth part and it looked like a batman emblem to me...

I'll be working on the shoulders after class tomorrow and my daedric armor should be finished and ready to detail by the weekend.

That looks pretty damn good man.
Are you going to add extra detail with thin foam over the top?
Either way can't wait for more updates :)
