Alright so I have actually been working on this build for a while and I'm going to throw all the pictures I have of it all on this first page. I'm not near being done yet but I plan to finish by November 20th so I can wear this to a convention. The way I am going about this build is I'm usind foam for alot of the costume because I found out with my marine costume pepped and resined parts are not all that strong. and they make it REALLY hard to bend over. So The majority of the suit is actually foam. The main torso is foam the gauntlets are foam the thighs and shins will be foam. However of course the helmet is not going to be foam and the chest plate and some of the acessories around the chest plate will not be foam rather they will go through the resin and bondo stages.

Now one thing I have learned about the foam method so far is that I actually need to make atleast two of every thing. Because my first gauntlet is very jagged and poorly made, while the second one is much nicer. So by the end of this project I will probally have three gauntlets, three thighs. three shins, and two main torsos because I want to make this as good as I can.

Now if you have ever followed any of my builds (god forbid) you will know that i hop on and off with a month or so gap in between posts then I post every day ect. I'm sorry but that is just how I do things. I will finish this ODST and I will make it good. Now for the part that people actually care about. The pictures.

ALSO if you have tips for filling in seams and painting PLEASE let me in on them.

Alright I'm starting with a picture of all the parts and where they are at now well the gauntlets look a bit better....

Okay now for the helmet

Alright now for gauntlets, The first picture is one all traced out and ready to be glued together. With my little buddy next to it

Now for the torso which I plan to redo because it has jagged cuts due to a dull blade. (my bad)

Thats all that I got If you have any suggestions please let me know.

I forgot to add pictures of the SMG that will go with the costume. I am making the SMG out of foam and then giving it a smooth layer of bondo to finish it off. I plan on being able to fold it and lock it in place via magnets on the stock and the fore grip.

Unlike the past few times I made props I actually remembered to cut a slit so the barrel will just slide into the gun and keep itself straight. I plan on getting some sort of rounded thumb tacks for the raised detail that goes on the grip then using plasti dip to give the grips a rubbery feel. However that is some time away I still have to cut parts down and get some nice curves in the gun.

I'm guessing the white parts on the SMG are foamcore? That'll be nice when it's done!
Yeah the white parts are plain foam boards you would use for a school project.

Smi update on thighs, I didn't like the way the seams were on the thighs I had made so I took one apart and used that as a template to make two more thighs using a different method. Now I need to buy some latex caulk to fill in the seams.

And to make the inner parts of the thighs.

Very small update. I got the inner part of the thigh finished on one thigh. I plan on living up some plasti-dip tomorrow to start painting.

I go a ton of work done with the chest assets today. I also got the forearms coated in plasti dip so they can be painted. I can't wait to get more work done but I got work and school.

Also comments would be nice ;)

Looking very good! cant wait to see the end result

Thanks guys too bad that I'm going to have to wait a while until the weather cools down more because one of the gauntlets came undone. One more problem I had is somebody cut the grass while the plasti dip on my gauntlets were drying so they have an odd texture to them.

Finally one last issue is I'm having trouble finding some good colored paint for the suit. I couldn't find any good colored grays.

The yellow tint on some spots on the gauntlets are from my attempt at weathering with mustard.

The chest plate only has plastidip on it while the gauntlets are 'done' though the paint on the gauntlets are cracked a bit. I need more practice before I move on.
Very nice!

Looking good. I may have to try my hand at some foam ODST armor once I complete my pepakura Spartan.

Very nice work.
Thanks I havent done foam before, and it is surprisingly easy to work with you just go through a ton of blades.

Any how I got my stuff together and I painted the primary chest plate.

I used a napkin to give it the paint chips.

Nice looking foam build. Good work piecing together Hugh's helmet
Thanks! Yeah the helmet was kinda tough but I love it!

Any how I have one teensy update due to a lack of $$$ and time. I added some extra details to the chest plate.
uploadfromtaptalk1407456435947.jpg

Each mark is not for a kill but for a drop survived.

Any who I plan on finishing any bondo work on the helmet before the 22 because I don't think the allow bondo in the dorms.

looking good sir. as a fellow ODST costumer, i approve.

i had a question, is there a particular reason you decided to do a pep/fiberglass for the helmet? I don't see anything wrong with that of course i was just curious if you thought it would be better instead of foam

To be honest. I didn't know foam helmets existed and I planned to have the chest assets all to be pep. I'm just now.learning the wonders of foam. I also have much more experience with pep.

In regards to the chest assets I have the last two finished now. They need heating and some bending but the general idea is there.

Medium sized update, I started playing with how I'm going to mount the parts with my nuts and bolts and what I have is good but a little long and painful...

I started on some hip plates too.

I think I need to spread some of the lower chest assets apart. So the main chest plate can sit lower and I still want to redo the main torso.

Also I keep getting told to clean up the room I work in for some reason...

uploadfromtaptalk1407556712983.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556729145.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556743425.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556755815.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556786955.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556796465.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556804325.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556812548.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407556826755.jpg

I finished making the hip plates and I used three cans of plasti-dip coating all of the parts in the images. Also I have all of the chest assets set up do they just screwonto the torso.

I plan on applying the next layers of paint tomorrow.

As for the forearms I plan on redoing them totally.

I have one shoulder made and I'm pretty pleased with it.

I painted a good deal of the parts and went to town weathering them. I actually used 3 different spray paints to get the desired look before I weathered the parts.

For weathering I used a napkin and sprayed it and then dabbed around the part to get it to give it a chiped look. Then for the scratches and such I used a paint brush.
