For this build we are going to be using hugh holder's files, but using foam to build it.

Goals for this project are:
  • In-Helmet Comms
  • Full Mobility in Costume
  • Cooling systems
  • Magnetic Holsters for weapons

Im sure more things will be added to this list as the project progresses.
Can't wait to get started!

I would like to introduce to you our Explosive/CQC Specialist! She will be the first one dropping in feet first!
I first made a paper template based off Hugh Holder's files in order to make sure it would fit right.

Then I transferred the template to foam and pieced it together, I then had her try it on and make sure it she could bend and have full range of motion.
Also instead of using buckles and nylon strapping to connect the pieces I used elastic banding to provide comfort and mobility.

As you can see i doubled it to ensure strength and to keep its form.

I think it is scaled nicely and decided to keep going

The front with the neck guard added

Back with neck guard and raised buckle ports added

Now you may ask what are those big holes in the middle of the buckle ports doing, well i decided that instead of just glueing the nylon strapping on to mimic the straps on the ODST armor, I decided to add functionality.
I am going to install buckles in those holes that I can the attach the front chest plate to, that way the plate can move freely.

Like this

Now you may ask, "what about those ugly buckles?" well I plan to have a plate this is velcro that can cover the buckles to ensure that you can reach the buckle but still hiding it in the process.

Thanks for check this out! Ill keep you guys updated.

Looks good so far, kinda jealous of the squads CO with that set-up.

That would be my set up!

Ok now on to progress

First the chest plate, I'd like to think its scaled nicely but I wont know till I can fit it on her.

Then the box that comes off the bottom of it.

Thats all I got so far, will keep you updated as I go!

I'm still jealous......I might even change from making S-4 armour first to making ODST. I might steal your setup....sorry in advance... :)

Go on ahead, but how bout that loadout now XD.

Well now down to business, I finished all the chest piece accessories! Now to focus on the belt buckle and hip plates.

That is something I noticed in one of the pictures, and I really want to add it. I feel like it needs to be there instead of having an empty space in the back of the vest.

Hopefully gonna knock out my todo list tomorrow and have some updates for you guys!

Alright guys, finished chest packs!

Heres the test fit!

I strapped it rather interestingly

Tell me what you think! Time to start working on the thighs and belt.

I'm a bit worried that the chest plate itself might be a bit too wide. Looks like it might hamper arm movement, especially once you add shoulder armor.

Thanks Zaff for pointing that out I think I may have found a way to correct this.

Now this is it normally, when it is flat it extends past the edge inhibiting arm movement, now when I curve it to be more fitting to the vest It seems to have corrected the issue.

I will make this more permanent with heavy duty velcro that should be able to keep the pieces connected while undergoing movement.

Whenever test fitting it's always a good idea to twist, flex, bend, and rotate the limbs through a full range of motion (or at least the movements you are most likely to be making while wearing it). It will help get a feel for where it flexes and where it binds, as well as areas that might catch each other, something that could cause a lot of damage if the person wearing the suit makes a careless movement (careless in the sense of not giving conscious thought to each subtle motion, not "I just don't give a hoot" careless). I remember as a little kid making cardboard costumes I'd make sure I could move my arms to pick things up and whatnot, and I'd think I was all good, but then someone would ask me something and I'd give an instinctive shrug and tear the shoulders out. That's enough of a pain with something constructed out of scrap boxes. Definitely not something you want to do when investing in foam or fiberglass supplies.

Alright I got involved with life for the past week but know I'm back with some updates.

So first off I got everything expect the gauntlets done in regards to the upper body.

Even though it looks like the shoulder would inhibit her movement I made sure she had full range of motion

Shoulder Detailing on the right shoulder, featuring rank and ODST logo.

Still have to finish lower body and gauntlets. The helmet we are going to be 3D Printing using the files by nintendstroid and master builder. Then after that we are going to be trying something new with details using either sticker paper or contact paper. If anyone has done this before I would love to hear your tips and tricks.

Today I worked on battle damaging the upper body today.

Tell me what you think!

A really nice build. The armour looks great with all the battle damage, although shouldn't the larger pauldron be on the left arm? I haven't researched the Explosives Specialist build, but it would seem right to have the bigger armour facing the enemy?

For the colour scheme, are you going to be doing each member a different colour, or a uniform blue for everyone? We're planning a similar build, and are trying to work out if ODST colours are squad or individual?

As the MEDREF patch can be seen on the larger pauldron this would indicate it to be on the left arm. I just have them laid out wrong.

Everyone is going to have their own color, and our squad logo will be on the center chest plate. I'm basing my decision for this off Halo 3 ODST as the individual members have their own color with the base being black.
