A DPDT, or double pole double throw, allows you to have three positions of the switch. The center position if lights off sound off. The up position is red light on sound on, the bottom position is blue light on sound on.

Can wire in such a way that the lights and sound have different power supplies, or the same power supply (battery). Advantage of the double pole is the isolation of circuits.

can somone tell me about solid state lasers (lasers that are visible in air even in clear conditions, no fog/smoke) i'm planning on making as real of a spartan laser as i can...

Thanks, the dpdt switch makes a bit more sense. I believe what confused me, after checking the website's circuit diagram with a fresh head, was that the example shown was for the Ghostbusters Proton pack which has different sound and lighting requirements than what I'm after. As for the different sounds per mode here's his video showcasing a test of his circuit. I'm guessing it's something that sound module is programmed for: http://youtu.be/LnFCPTNMm1M
 
Servo, camshaft, piston. At least that's how I would do it.

The kind of lasers you can get your hands on won't have a beam wide enough. What would work is a luxeon LED. Extremely bright, and classified as a low level laser. Can focus with a lens to be a wide beam of light.

You can find luxeon LEDs in LED Flashlights. Those are white, you will probably want red. Can find a full luxeon assembly here:

I don't see any wires going from the DPDT switch to the sound chip, but I could be wrong.

Sure, if you have a mechanical mind, can devise a system that will do all sorts of movements. For ideas, research animatronics and puppetry builds.
 
Came up with a nifty idea today. Cheap and effective voice amplification for your suit. Solution? A cheap microphone and powered mini speaker. Then a female to female headphone adapter to connect the two.

That would be fantastic for my hunter build but I would replace the speaker with something a little... louder. Either that or a splitter to have two or more of them.
 
thank you so much decade! this is actually perfect for what i was looking for! what i was thinking i could do is have the normal thin ray of light for the charging sequence, and then have a lens flip into place for the blast! im excited now, ill keep you updated, and probably be asking more questions... :p thank you!
 
Hey guys, I've never been particularly good with electronics and I was planning on making an iron man helmet with opening face, but before I start it at all I was wondering how exactly would I achieve this? Are there any tutorials kicking around?
 
this guy has a good idea. from the look of the hinge system he's using i say use a push rod servo somewhere. as far as wiring, layout and geometry im a little hazy. or you could use a friction slide hinge from the local hardware store. and solder a tab onto it to attach to the motor.

Lights and sound

Hey guys. I'm working on a halo suit. I was wanting to add sounds.
Does anyone know of a good system that one button plays one file and another button plays another file? And that the files can be changed with a usb? I was hoping to have 5 buttons and 5 sounds. I already have some small speakers and I'm sure I can get the wires/solder pretty easily.
Also, where could I get some cheap LED lights online?

Random thought. if you know where to look you might be able to find an optometry aperture with a focusing ring. all you would have to do is rig up a mechanical auto focus to it or some other motorized part to open or close the focusing ring. but then that also may need to incorporate a delay so when the lights were fully charged it would slam open. dependent on how complicated you want to go. (works in theory but then again everything does till its tried out)

Now, I haven't had the time (or the money) to order any of these yet so I cant tell you how good this product is. But hey, if thatdecade thinks it's good, it's gotta be, haha. There is a draw back though, it can only hold 4 different sounds (and you wanted 5). So... yeah... On top of that, it's kind of expensive. It's an awesome item though.

As for cheap LEDs, LEDs are cheap. The problem is shipping and handling. I order all of my stuff from: http://www.alliedelec.com/

This is a very good idea! i will have to look and see if i can find any of the aperture lenses and see if i can figure anything out for that. i am already planning to have (since it is such a large gun and i dont mind it being heavy as it would be in-game) a mass power source (probably a smallish car battery) plenty of capacitors so i get a massive high power beam right when i want it, a solid state laser setup, trigger with a charging sequence, and quite likley even more than that

i know what you mean. I was thinking since i want to make the Gungnir helmet and everything that i should make a spartan laser to keep all in the same project. then i saw a concept of Jun Alpha 266 with gungnir helmet and a broken down System 99 anti material sniper rifle. so i may just have to do that too. only thing is its going to be expensive, and time consuming because of all electronics i want to use. maybe casting the helmet and chest/back piece would be best with reinforcement in key areas. most of the electronics will be cannibalized from stuff i already have (old laptop, 5mp webcam, tft lcd for a tacpad and visor , beach head microphone head set. now i just need to look into cooling fans/blowers and actuators for the "snout" of the visor out of the way, kind of like a supplemental armor. but the rest of the helmet is fully finished with a retractable visor. (alot of stuff one tiny package)
 
might even go so far as to make a "Baby monitor" for the sniper rifle. yes i made a C.O.D. reference for halo gear.
 
making a lightsaber soon,(prop) and wanna add random useless Led's and battery monitors that look cool, but don't really do anything besides blink and light up. But I don't really like the idea of mom switches, I wanna have an ignition switch that has a button push, turn on, button push again, turn off, aka latching, but mr. latch has a green ring of light around it when activated, that also needs juice to work.. I was thinking of having a separate switch that turns everything else on somewhere else, like secretively inside the saber. Is it possible to wire everything from one battery pack or do I need more than one? what are your thoughts on this?
