Hey guys, I'm new here so I figured I'd start a thread and chronicle my first project. I'm going to start simple...very simple and build a knife from Halo Reach. I did a lot of origami when I was younger so I'm not too worried about learning the technique for the paper models but I've only worked with resin a few times while assisting my boss. I'm planning on using this knife and then maybe a pistol or something as practice before trying to make a helmet (and possibly a whole suite).

I've spent a few days just reading up on techniques and browsing the forums. It seems like everyone here is very helpful and there are some great tutorials! I'm a noob, but am excited to learn from everyone and pick up a new hobby.

I did NOT create these files. I got the files for the knife through carpathiavh99 who made the model from blueprints Juliet76 posted.

I already have the the knife printed out card stock and cut out a few pieces on my lunch break. Hopefully by tonight I'll have it all cut out and possibly start assembling. I'll try to post plenty of pictures along the way. Please comment, give pointers, critique, ect! Thanks!

Post pics man! It looks like you've got all your stuff together, I personally am trying a knife for a first pep as well. It's Jun's knife(he carries it on his shoulder as well), and I've got it cut out.

Oh awesome! I just got home from work and am doing more cutting. I've taken a few shots and will post tonight or tomorrow depending on homework. Yay college! The shoulder knifes look so cool on Reach. Good luck with your knife! Have you done anything like this before?

Hey guys, its been a busy week so I haven't posted anything. I still managed to make progress on the knife albeit slow. I finished peping Thursday and am doing a quick bit of double checking before going to pick up some resin, gloves, plastic cups, brushes, and bondo (I already have a respirator). If anyone can think of anything to add to that list let me know.

Here are some photos of my progress so far. There are a few areas where I messed up, but overall I'm happy. Its straight and the imperfections that are present should be able to be fixed with bondo. I would go back and fix them, but I decided I would like to attempt a helmet before HALOween (lame joke alert). Anyway, here are the pictures. Let me know what you think and if you see any rookie mistakes...

Oh and sorry for the constant shutterfly advertisement ha. I didn't feel like buying one of the those mats to cut on. It works pretty well though.

Sorry for the pictures not showing up. I'm a forum noob too ha! I'll go read some of the beginner threads and fix it later. In the mean time, I'm off to get supplies!
