the singapore nerf group guys sell complete upgrade kits for stampedes so maybe you'd wanna look em up. I got one set from them and man its quite an upgrade!

Quick update.

Ive placed the bits together and like Captain Planet, they form this!:

The only thing that sticks out is that the handle is about 2.5 cm too low. But i can live with that.

Cheers.

Another update but this time its less visual as most of what ive done is trim and adjust everything. With the exception of *this*:

5487838246_000e0c9e5a_z.jpg

Third time lucky... *Shakes fist* Anyway there is only the smallest amount of warping on the end near the body of the gun. Ill set it then glass over the inside and it should be sweet. Feck, about time :D

Sanded the edges and the rear nice and round. Looks better now. The clip is fitting better too.
5487243147_3529ce2a84_z.jpg

Ok this was mainly sanding everything to fit, so now i should be able to use a normal 18 round clip in the nerf gun. Then i fixed the clip housing leaning to one side and drilled out the 4 screw indents on the shroud.
5487838592_0b761484c5_z.jpg

Its right about now i need to make some aluminium brackets that screw to the sides of the shroud. Ill use these to mount the clip housing and grenade launcher sections to the mail body.

Cheers.

the forum is called nerfsg. Just get an account and look for member Hanzo. He sells complete upgrade kits

Wow man this is looking utterly amazing, the Stampede is already an outstanding nerf gun and you've made it perfect. Wondering how well it fires and how much it weighs with all the fiberglass added to it. Also, are you thinking of adding a grenade launcher to the bottom? Because you could get the Longshot and cut off the shot-gun style extra gun on the front and add that to this gun which would look and work quite well

I believe great minds think alike :)

Unfortuately the front guns are pretty poor in every way so i might mod a recon into the same area. This way i can have a small clip of darts for the grenade launcher.

Ah awesome, ill have a chat with him about a kit. Cheers!

Also a small update. I now have a decent lipo battery for this trombone :D (1.3mAh 11.1v 20-30c discharge)

I will trim some of the epoxy sculpt from the rear of the nerfgun so it slots into its own area. This will also serve to build up the rear to match a little better with the handle.

Cheers.

holy crap!! i hope you know that a lot of airsoft guns arent even capable of handling that much power, especially a lipo.

holy crap!! i hope you know that a lot of airsoft guns arent even capable of handling that much power, especially a lipo.
The battery is just an energy source, how you use it is the important part. Airsoft guns have a huge current draw, are pretty much unregulated and have a lot of moving parts dedicated to turning electrical force into mechanical, and a DC motor that draws more current as the resistance on it increases, that is why 11.1 lipos are an issue for airsoft guns. Using a lipo for an energy source for a relatively low power application like this is a completely different thing. As long as it is never shorted, the lipo will last a long, long time in this application. Still need to be careful not to draw the cells below 3v. Also, if the battery is shorted and catches on fire or explodes, this build has a ton of readily combustible material.

yeah this forum and fire dont mix well...... i feel like im going to spontaniously combust in my suits sometimes lol
i didnt know that, thanks for explaining

Nah, unless the lipo explodes there wont be much of an issue. I was gonna say "What combustible material" and then i thought "Ohh... nerf gun plastic". Whats the worst that can happen, catches fire and drips flaming plastic out of the fiberglass shroud leaving room for a replacement nerf gun bahahaha.

In short i will be using a lipo cutoff circut to disconnect it from the nerf gun when it goes below the safe voltage. I was looking at an off the shelf one but it was a 3 cell and the rest all connect to an RC reciever/ESC etc. Bah.

Anyway, update:

Boxed in the battery box and gave it a sand so its mostly smooth/straight. Note there is a seam down the middle that allows it to be split in half for when you need to get to the nerf internals. (Also you cant really see it but i evened up both epoxy sculpt rails so they match better with the upper shroud.)

I also boxed in the clip housing and made it wide enough to fit an un-modified nerf clip. You can never be sure when nerf battles occur. Constant vigilance! *grin*
5508252094_169466b56d_z.jpg

Ok now on the to-do list i will cut out aluminnium brackets (front and back) to allow everything to be screwed together. I will also make a template for the barrel bracket and the rear stock (I think ill make something attach as the battery cover).

Cheers.

Combust, tell Hanzo that Jedi sent you if you do speak to him lol.

I love how its coming together.

Btw for the grenade launcher I wouldn't bother with the LS front gun. Its a real POS. You're better off working a recon

You could always get one of these. Has indicator lights for battery level and an audible alarm when it drops below 3.10 which would be plenty of time to shut it down. They work fine with 2 or 3 cell lipos.

Thanks man :) Ill do that.
Im trying to get my hands on a recon (a friend was sending me one) as once i read up on, and played with the front gun.. it was just not.. right :D I think you know what i mean.

Oooo that looks like a winner. Unfortunately the one you posted does not state how many cells it supports.

This one on the other hand is correctly rated and pretty danm cheap. Thanks man! I was racking my brain trying to come up with an alternative to making one (Possible but time consuming) :D Problem solved!

I still kinda like the idea of a Cutoff but the cost is more than im willing to pay atm.

Cheers!

You can tell how many cells it supports by the number of pins coming off of it. It has 4 pins, so it supports 2(7.4) or 3(11.1) cell batteries. 2 cell batteries have a 3 pin connector, 3 cells have a 4pin. I have a 4 cell one and it works interchangeably with my 2 and 3 cell lipos. My voltage reader/balancer will go up to 6 cells!

Ah thats awesome to know, thanks. Ended up buying a simillar one for about $4 :)

Quick update:

Ok as ive lost my charger for my camera the most recent work will be posted later. For now im back to bondo/sand mode... :/ Heh

Crappy phone pics:

Ill make certain i either drill out or dremel the vent holes.

Anyway stay tuned for aluminium barrel bracket and the front and back brackets to hold the nerfgun to the upper shroud.

Cheers.
