***Current Update on Fourth page***

Well, here is my first attempt at creating a helmet. I chose Belakor’s smooth Recon model unfolded by Macattack64. I’ve been working on this off and on for about 2 months now when time is available. Hopefully I can get this completed in the next couple of weeks. I will post more Photos once I make more progress. Please let me know what you think so far and if there is anything I can do to improve. Also, big thank you to all the wealth of information and those that supply it here on the 405th.

I know there is still alot left to do, but I thought I would get some feed back.

Thanks again, 405th!!

keep at it man. sanding part takes forever but still beats glueing paper all day! :)
your off to a great start.

I think I have officially decided to make this helmet for my build. It looks awesome :) Hopefully you have time to get it done; it looks great so far!

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate the feedback. I plan on hitting this hard over the next few weeks. Definitely keep an eye on this thread for additional updates.

Update

Decided I would try a test run on carving detail. Drew the detail with a marker, then used a razor blade to carve. Not happy with all of it, but no big deal. I have to slap more body filler down anyways. I'll just fill the ugly up. Let me know what you think.

So, I found this stuff called mighty putty (two part epoxy putty in stick form) and used it to make some detail on the helmet. The nice thing about it is it’s just like clay and dries rock solid. It sandable and adheres to most surfaces. Let me know what you think 405th.

Wow! Looking great there! The recon is a great starting helmet, and those details I did out of some wood and layered cardstock. Keep up the great work, and great idea with the mighty putty.

Thanks man, I was real impressed with your build aswell. Well, I found mightly putty at my local Michaels. I may buy this stuff called Magic Sculpt (Epoxy clay = Cheaper per ounce than Mighty Putty)

Looks good, hope my Recon turns out that well.

Thank you. I've been taking my time on mine. Good luck with your build (Post some pics).

looks nice. What is that stuff on the nose. It looks like a huge bulge

The stuff on the nose is mighty putty. Now that i look at the pic a little closer it does look a little funny. But its actually smooth. I was trying to create the detail under the visr (the indent) and smooth out the hard lines inherent to the model. I touched it up a bit recently because I noticed i had the indent off center (it looks smoother & better).

that is going to be a nice recon when its done keep up the great work

Thank you, I haven't been able to work on it because its been to cold lately (30s & low 40s). I need to get a heat lamp or make a hot box. So, I've started pepping an ODST Helmet for my daughter. I may pep a few others while I wait for it to warm up. I'm in FL too, thats the crazy part.
