Hi all!
I'm Michael, a 19-year old student currently finishing a gap year. I was a lurker on the forum a few years ago, but I've decided to really make an effort towards creating my first set of armour.
I decided to start with a Carter costume, because he was my favourite Spartan of Noble team (in terms of armour and character - most badassinest way to die evarr).
Anyway, my first piece is the HD left upper arm.

EDIT: not sure how to get photos to appear in-thread!

I used Halogoddess' method of scaling. My first attempt was WAY too small - it barely fit over my elbow. This is the second attempt, which I'm worried is too big (the first was 165ish in height, the second 219). Could anyone judge for me and tell me whether it just looks big because I don't have the rest of the armour made yet, or whether it genuinely is too large.

Thanks for reading! As I said, pretty much a total noob here, so comments and criticisms are much appreciated.

welcome back dude! The pep work looks good! I think the scaling really comes down to how mobile do you think it will be when you put on the forearm? Don't know how tall you are, but my biceps were scaled around 200mm i believe and they work for me. Yours looks close to how they fit on me, maybe a little bigger. I'd say build a forearm and try it out with that on before making the other bicep. That's just what I did, figured I'd throw that your way. Good luck on the build! I'll keep an eye on this one cause I'm doing a Carter too :D

I'm 6 foot 2 inches (I'm hoping the armour will give me another 2 or 3 inches, to bring me into a slightly more Spartan height), and about 170 pounds (slim, if you can't see from the picture). If you watch the Birth of a Spartan trailer, it'll give you an idea of my body shape - it's roughly what the 'real' Carter's was when he was fourteen years old :p there's an awesome shot of him looking at his armour, with his reflection mapping perfectly onto the suit, which I'm sorta using to judge size. Thanks for the advice dude! I'm away until the start of next week, but when I'm back I'll start on the forearm and see how it goes.
Either way I'm keeping both of the forearms I've already done so I can practise my nooby mudglassing on them.
Out of curiosity, how did you scale your pieces? Taken a quick glance at your thread, they seem to fit pretty well! The torso looks near perfect.

Keep in mind that the forum shortens long links and using the text that is displayed won't work, you'll have to copy and paste the links' targets instead.
This is the working link, looks like yours but the target is different: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/30673-How-to-use-Photobucket-to-include-pictures-in-your-threads
