hey everyone doing another build, it's for me but im doing it for my gf its a surprise so shhhhhh! lol. We both love mass effect and she recently had me help her build the ME3 suit for her but she really wanted to cosplay with someone else from ME3 so im building Garrus :cool lol hope you like it. my goal is to have this entire suit done by Halloween.

(FINISHED PICS ON PAGE 8!)

so i started out with trying to make the hardest parts first the mask. i failed 3 times before i finally got it. First i made it out of cardboard... and that was so awful i deleted every single pic of it so it never existed:rolleyes. Anyway after that i realized that sculpting his face would make it A lot easier so hear is attempt number 2...

everything looked ok untill i saw how wrong the mouth and cheek bones are so re do..:angry

shortly after i fixed everything and attempted to make a plaster mold... and failed. It was aweful I used crystal clear on the clay as a mold relese and it bonded to the plaster so ther was no saving it... :-(

Hear is the 4th and final attempt came out just the way I wanted it. After I baked the clay it was still really brittle so I use some smooth on onyx inside to make it sturdy.
ran out of white and tan clay.lol

its maid out of the true foam you can get it at joanns. i used a thin layer of plaster(aka joint filler) then used a latex based paint in between each layer of plaster 3 layers each.
and 3 coats of latex as a finish. (i might add some epoxy appliance paint over that.)

man that sculpt is awesome, and don't forget, your not the same size nor have the same structure as garrus, so you'll have to mod the chest to your own measurements ^^

Big update!!!

Ok so i was able to get a lot done over the weekend and finished up some stuff last night hope you like it :)

I started with marking off the detail for the chest
2011-09-18182930.jpg

then cut out the foamies and coated the entire chest with epoxy appliance paint and glued the foamies on (fyi if your going to make something out of plaster and latex use this stuff to finish it, it's awesome!)

2011-09-19005343.jpg

I decided to hand paint everything cause i dont want to go buy $25 worth of paint when i have it in acrylic paint

2011-09-19030256.jpg

I finished the top part and the burned in the detail with a soldering iron and used some latex and plasti dip to finish it.

2011-09-19204852.jpg

2011-09-19204807.jpg

took a break form that and painted the shoulders

2011-09-19204733.jpg

2011-09-19204721.jpg

then i went crazy and painted the rest lol
2011-09-20045216.jpg

the top may look funny cause its not glued down its just sitting there

so thats all for now ill start on the back and arms tomorrow

Looking pretty awesome, can't wait to see it all finished. You said you're going cast the head in silicone, what do you plan on using as the mold material, rebound? I'd really like to see pics of that process, yah know... if you have free hands at that point! ;) Keep up the good work!

Thank you! Ive been doing a lot of thinking about that and i think the best route would be to make the mold out of out of silicone (rebound 25) and then to make the cast out Smoothcast Onyx. Just because of the 3 spines that come out the back would be floping around when i walk if I made it out of silicone. But I will post it when it comes to that part:)

(btw awesome ODST helmet love the bullet hole lol)
