Hey there Guys/Gals,

I'm posting here my atempts at building a havoc trooper armor for my youngon. I don't have much time left to hallows eve so with some hard work and elbow grease i'll be able to pull this off.

Here's a link to some drawing i've done after looking at Ref. I might have to go out and buy a commander cody figure to try and get the visor right but for now it will do. Hope you like

Thanks Alliance585, I'll do my best to keep it updated.

Well finished modeling the helmet with out the visor. Took me way too long. After this i'll take a break do some RandD on how to break it apart for pepakura then i'll try and draw up the elbow, forearm and hand armor. I'll start modeling the visor tomorrow hopefully that won't take me as long since the helmet looks to be the most complicated of all the pieces.

Here's the link to some picks, hope you guy/gals like.
Lates.

Here's and update, finally got around to drawing up the elbow, forearm and hand armor after doing my R&D on unfolding in pep. Which took way too long. Tomorrow or i should say later today i'll tackle unfolding in Pep, scary. Especially since i'm too broke to buy the full ver. and won't be able to save. So it will be all or nothing on that, if i'm done with time to spare i'll draw up the hip and thigh armor.

Here's a link to the drawing, oh i'm gonna have to resize the bicept armor, it's looking too small.

Yeah definietly, It's because of this forum that i'm able to attempt this so definitly. So as a way of giving back for all the great info i'll post them once i'm done. Just forgive my modeling in advance. I haven't modeled in 3d in years.

Here's an update for today, I finished prepping the file in Pep and now i'm off the computer for a little while while i get the helmet started. I've tried building the helmet twice already and once it came out too small and the second to big. So now i'm found the middle and hopefully that should do it. I need to find my extra xacto blades i have some where so i'm off to the garage to try and find them. Should make cutting easier. hehe i hope.

Halloween Update. I have crashed and I am burning. Didn't finish the helmet in time for my youngest son to wear to his schools Halloween day. On top of that it's to tall for both him and me. It sits on our bodies and our heads don't come into contact with the top of it at all. For me it's snug on the sides. Funny enough tho it seems to fit my teenage sun. Wow i have a short neck. Needless to say it's back to the drawing board for me to rescale the helmet and then go at it again.

Here's some pics

Update for today, I went ahead and finished the base helmet, I still have the visor to go on this helmet, I'll start tackling that tomorrow. Here r some pics of it thus far.

Now i've started to run into other problems other then scaling on this and I was hoping maybe some of you guys here on the forum might have some advice for me on this. The Pep work has warped on me. Here r some pics of this to show what i mean.

My question to you guys is has this happend to you? If so how have you gone and fixed it? I was looking thru the threads here and i read someone reply that you have to add reinforcements to hold it in place until you resin it. Is this the only method or has anybody else tried other methods?

Ahh to b a nood. Hahaha oh well this is how i learn.

wow that model looks sexy ;) will you be sharing it because ive been looking for a model of this helmet for awhile
oh also i looked at your blog and it seems like you said with a bit of pressure it returns to the correct shape, you can try taping it on the inside to correct the shape then resin it, once the resin has cured itll be the correct shape and wont require the tape any longer :D
hope it helps!

Hey Golem95,

Yeah I'm definitely sharing, just pm me your email and i'll send it on over. Tho i have to tell you at the moment the model has issues and i'm in the process of reworking it. Right now it's to tall and not wide enough. If your willing to wait until i get that fixed or take it as is let me know.

Thanks for the advice on the warping. I'll definitely try it out before i begin to resin.

I also found this thread where they talk about warping issues, here's a link for those that wish to know. It's post #9 by carpathiavh99

oh there are problems? hard to believe seeing as how beautiful that file looks :D
of course im willing to wait, cant rush perfection :p
if i were you when remaking the file id remove those tiny details you had trouble with as they are probably easier to add on using other parts after resining the pep, with the hd files on this site i often edit it to remove tiny grooves, ledges or raised details while keeping the original shape just to ease the pepakura stage :)
although i would like to get the current model just to have a look at it in 3d, ill pm you

PVA glues(Elmer's, wood glue, etc) all shrink as they dry. You need to make sure you use as little as possible. If you use lots for every tab, it is going to warp. I tend to take a single dot of it and swipe it with my finger for a super thin coat. That is all you need to make the paper stick. The glue should be thin enough that you have maybe 30 seconds to move the paper around and then it is already too dry and the paper will just tear. You also want to work in sections of continuous parts, let them dry and then connect those to other sections. That way one section drying does not affect another and cause warping.
