This build came about in an interesting way. A photographer friend of mine asked if I had any ideas about making a medieval style costume for a photo shoot. At first I had NO idea how to even approach it. But as he was and still is playing Skyrim obsessively, and has the wallpaper on his computer, I started looking at the default character design. And the wheels started turning. The armor is based on but not a complete copy of the default armor. Its not complete, so I'll update as it goes.
The helmet is built from the foam core of an old skateboard helmet. The eye guard area is a free hand design.
The helmet was covered with masking tape, then paper mache to make a base. Instead of bondo, I used drywall repair spackle to smooth out the shape. This method worked out just as good for me as bondo, plus except for the sanding I could work on it inside. The leather pieces are from when I was gonna try and incorporate real leather into the design.
The armor "scales" are craft foamies
Helmet after paint, blackwash, adding craft rivets and battle damage
Arm gauntlets. made from foam pad material. The design was burned-etched in then painted silver, then blackwashed. The fur material was hot glued on then regular leather pieces to tie it onto my arm.
Leg armor, same method
This is the weapon I designed for the costume. I named it Xcalpulitus (Scawl-pull-eee-tus). It is a glaive type weapon as I didn't want to make a sword, axe or anything that has already been done. It has its name written on one side of the blade, and Fus Ro Dah written on the other, both in Rune script.
All current pieces together
