Hey guys I've been following the 3d building thread for a while now and now that I have enough reference photos from the videos and screen shots I figured it's time to get started. I'm taking the same approach and starting with the smaller pieces while I slowly start working on the bigger/detailed pieces. I've already started on working on some pieces last night ! Wish me luck!
(I would just like to state Im not using any templates of any sort just reference photos that I have gathered)

Ok so on the spartan 4 armor the under suit has millions of theses bubble looking things

Reference shot:

so I had two ideas I used my Dremal and made a ton of circles on a piece of scrap foam them I flipped it to see what texture gives the suit better detail

first:

Second:

after heating the foam the second test is what I decided to go with because of how its almost beveled like the suit.
on the larger pieces ill make my cuts a little deeper so you can see the detail from far away.

I also finished the hand plates as well.

Really nice foam work there, am loving the details you have achieved with the dremel.

Keep up te good work,
Tom.

Very nicely done! You definetly have the eye for scratch-building, these pieces look fantastic!

Hey now! That's awesome. Even cooler, you're doing it all from scratch and from what must be about only 3 reference pictures. Spectacular!

*Update*

Hey guys thanks for all the complements !
I started on the arms last night finished them about an hour ago (not the elbow plates)

I'll be honest I might be re-building thease, the thing that sucks about this being a scratch build is there is a lot of trial and error... In this case I think there to short and to blocky lol. You guys be the judge :)

This is what I prepped last night just for the overall shape

Well that's it for that I'll post late tonight on the knee plates shown in the first pic and also the elbow plates.

Seya!

That bubble texture...how?! This is such an awesome build!

I don't want to bother too much, but, you didn't happen to make/save any templates for this? And I think we might want to see a more in-depth look at how you did that texture!

Will definitely be watching this!

After loking at some refrence pics of the Spartan IV armor, the forearms do look square, so It looks pretty good

Totally awesome work! Especially for a scratch build, the eye you've got for the detail and construction is amazing. What head are you using to make the circular texture?

*mini update*

thanks guys^^^

I meant to do this last night but, I feel asleep lol. Anyway... I finished the elbow and attached them to the forearms. Also I took some pictures for a mini tutorial on how I did the bubble part lol but that will be up later. That's it for now though :)

(since the forearms are kinda "boxie" I added some additional foam inside so it fits flush-er lol)

Awesome work my good sir. What kind of bit are you using to shave the edges of the foam? Can't wait to see your chest get started
