Hey guys I have already built a Carter Suit (which you can check out by clicking the link in my signature) but have no weapons to go with it. I decided on a DMR. As the title suggests I'll be using the sliced pep file unfolded by L3X BLU3RIV3R(which i'll post later) and then transposing the patterns onto cardboard. I'll then harden that and add detail with body filler etc. I am thinking about maybe adding a holographic sight instead of the default sight that comes with the gun. This will be my first weapon build so tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Stay tuned for more!

Here's the Sliced DMR file link http://www.4shared.com/file/185799110/3787c674/sliced_reach_br.html

Sliced are easier than regular peps but can take up tones of pages ( e.g beam rifle) hope you can get this right in one go!

Yeah I hope so too...the file that I'm using is only 22 pages though and I believe that the pep file is a couple pages less (not really sure though). The good part is that if I do have to remake at least I have something that my girlfriend can use when she makes her suit if it's too small and if it's too big I can just find a way to mount it in my room to make my room look awesome! LOL.

Sorry for double posting but... I HAVE AN UPDATE!!! So after looking at a lot of builds today I got the inspiration to finish building my DMR in one sitting...took me about 8 hours but when you get urge to build you gotta capitalize right? I cut out the templates traced them onto cardboard then cut out the cardboard and glued it together. I have yet to harden and detail but that will come later. Here are some pics! Let me know what you guys think.

SO IT BEGINS!!!

Time to start cutting out the cardboard!

I'm using a Stanley Quick Point blade. The thing I like about it is that you can snap out the blade at certain sections to keep it sharp. That way you dont have to go out to buy a new blade if your current blade goes dull.

more cutting...

Time to start gluing!!!

So here's half of the DMR, I got excited because I thought I was almost done when I realized that I had only traced half of the DMR the other half was easy just flipping the templates over.

Looks good so far, very clean
Thanks Xtreme, I checked out some of your builds and your MK. VI helmet is superb! I love what your doing with the armor as well!

Very impressive. I just might have to make this one myself.
This is actually a way easier way to build weapons imho. I tried pepping, and it's just too hard to harden. Too much rondo and your piece is too heavy, too little and it's too brittle. I just edited the first post. The link should be there.
Looking good my man, subscribed to this, can't wait for the files.
Thanks Ians! Your comment reminded me to put the link to the file up. It's in the first post. If you can't see it you can also look up Halo Reach pepakura in Google and it should direct you to the Reach files thread. They have a bunch of Reach armor, as well as some other sliced files. Best of luck!

Hey guys sorry for double posting but I have an issue!!!

DMRfix.jpg

So in the reference photo there is a rounded top to the DMR, and the "grill" area goes into the top as well. The file that I am using doesn't seem to have this "rounded" edge or have the "grill" continuing into the top section of the gun. I am stuck as to try and fix this by cutting a fix with more cardboard or just scrapping this and starting over. I think that if I do start over i might want to carve out areas for wires so that I can add lights on the gun to light up at night. Maybe I'll just continue with this and down the road I can rebuild and add in the "wire tunnels" later. Any suggestions on what I should do to fix this slight inaccuracy?

Just cut it out of the cardboard yourself. You can always fix it to be exact later with bondo

That sounds like a good plan. I did put a couple hours into this and don't want to just scrap it if I absolutely don't have to. I guess the more game accurate DMR will be another project added to the "to do list". I have some photo updates of what I was able to get done today. I drilled out some of the holes where I will be adding screws later for more "detail". Here are some pics...

the little holes are the places where I drilled it out

I'm thinking about using screws with different sized heads. I think it would add more character to the weapon. I will also be painting them, or possibly finding ones that are already matte black. I don't like how silver and shiny they are right now. More updates to come! Hope you enjoyed this small appetizer :).

Great idea on how to add detail with different sized screws!

I think 100% game accuracy is a bit overrated, i'll take great craftsmanship and detail over game accuracy anyday

Now if you have both... Youre probably employed in this industry and doig well. And if not, you should be ahaha.

Oh how I wish I could do this for a living! I'm not sure as to where the smaller or bigger screws will go yet. I'll figure it out after everything is resined and bondoed.

Looking awesome! I'll be keeping up with this.
Hopefully you haven't abandoned it.

No I'm still working on it. Haven't made much progress though as school is coming to a close and finals are soon to follow :(. I will post updates more often after finals/hell week is over. Speaking of "hell" week...I should make an ODST and show up to my final exams wearing it literally dropping "feet first into hell" lol.

What you have, looks great.
I would harden what you have. Sand down the rough edges and paint it up. Later if you want to do a replica you will have something to work with. :cool

Thanks Thorn! Once again, it's nice to be complimented by an "ELITE" building (c'mon mods...thorn belongs in the ELITE forum already!!!!)

UPDATE!!!!

Alright guys sorry for such a long delay. I was able to apply a few coats of resin to the cardboard to harden it and will probably apply another layer or two before applying bondo. Here are the pics!
