Eh, that's your choice, Crimmson. I'm only trying to save you some effort and hassle, and improve your modelling skills along the way. I'd really like to see an infested Spartan at some point, most certainly, but I doubt that Pepakura is the best way to go about creating the Flood growths.

That aside: again, simply mesh-welding models together isn't 'practise', as such. More often than not it creates models that are going to be just as difficult to create and assemble as they might have been without being edited - you may want to look at Master Builder's H4 Mk VI and Scout sets to get a good idea of how you can optimise a model for Pepakura without having to resort to mesh welding and object merging. It's difficult, I'll admit, and often it's tempting to just go ahead and weld pieces together, but it's often worth looking objectively at your model before you take a crack at it and considering how well you're going to be able to build it; particularly considering that others may not have your practise or ability with assembling models. I personally take great pains to look at the models I create objectively, and consider how capable people may be with getting the things I make assembled post-print. It may even be worth test-building your models after working on them to see how they fit together.

Just food for thought, is all. Objectively, you could stand to remove some closed faces from items such as chest pieces, but otherwise, you're doing fine work.

@Arcanine To me mesh welding is practise, you are correct to a certain point about the end result being to hard to build, some of them are, but i disagree on the them being just as hard as if they werent even mesh welded as we for the most part need a solid model to work with. Master Builder creates some beautiful models and pep files no doubt, but if part of your argument is ease of building then using models that are in multiple pieces kind of contradicts that as after you build it you would need to figure out a way to mount them all or fuse them together verses one solid model, but i still agree with you his are way more optimized than mine. i do think about the people building the model, that is why i sometimes state to use foamies for the small details instead of pepakura. also please continue to chime in, i rarely get feed back and no feed back sort of leads to this. i dont shy away from people trying to help me. i see the page visits going up and the download counter in mediafire going up as well but no feed back. so please believe me when i said what i stated. take for instance the vog relic shield i think it came out pretty snazy and simple to build but no feed back how am i supposed to gage if it is good or lacking. i know it not your job to babysit me but a little feed back from people wouldnt hurt either. and thank you for your comments you have given me a lot to think about.

Edit: i remember my first post in this thread was something along these lines. i started this thread to document me learning how to 3d model. i have since changed it to what it is now, but the mission statement is the still the same, the models released here are a by product of this. that is also why i sometimes state if you can and see fit to change the model do so.

Well, we'll take, for example, the Halo: Reach ODST set you created in THIS post.

For critique's sake: I personally would remove the back faces from the shoulder plate, and the internal faces from the torso. Having faces like these doesn't really add anything in the way of structural support, and it's very easy to do your build more harm than good trying to close everything off at the end. And yes, I know, these faces can be removed in Pepakura and left out, but I've seen you model them in, which strikes me as a bit of a waste of effort.

Following that - why fuse the ODST chestplate to the main chest piece? Wouldn't it be much easier to build the two as two different components, strengthen them independently, and then attach the two later on? Having one large model increases the risk of the entire effort being wasted it something goes wrong, not to mention the fact that trying to build a fused piece like this would be a rather large pain.

If you're set on strengthening your pieces internally with struts, it may be worth looking at either Hugh Holder's ODST helmet as an idea of how to split your model into components, or Flyin_Squirl's H3 Mk VI models, as an idea of how to structure your models without adding in superfluous geometry. I'd also hasten to add that these methods are best suited to 'open' pieces such as armour, whereas weaponry and props may need some creative thought in other directions.

Food for thought, anyway. I'm planning to re-structure my Blender tutorial thread at some point, and my walk-through may offer you some insight into other potential methods. Otherwise, if you want critique, you're always welcome to throw models my way, and I'll do my best to look at the piece objectively and offer constructive critique.

hum crimson have you made anything from night fall yet?

I am not sure which items you want. I really don't know if there is a specific set of items just for nightfall. if you want look through here http://www.destinystlgenerator.com/ and download the model you want to make that it is available and then request here and maybe add a link to the item you want. this way we know exactly what you want. sorry I haven't answered for a bit, but I just got back from Mexico seeing a doctor. I got tired of the incompetence of American doctors. my family and I have been sick for the past 4 weeks and all they can say is that they don't know what we have. then my wife needed to see a specialist and her appointment wasn't for 1 month at the earliest. I got tired of paying doctor visit after visit and getting nowhere. lets just say that my daughters are eating and playing normally, I feel better and my wife is seeing a specialist right now. no hassle no red tape I already called my doctor and threw in his face how a "third world" doctor figured the f out what was wrong with us right away while his pompous a** degrees in medical science didn't help him. normally I don't act and talk this way but I am fed up with the medical system here.

Are you talking about the Destiny Nightfall (the weekly strike) or the Halo Nightfall live-action series?

Glad to know things are finally getting better. How's the wife doing? And speaking of healthcare, it's gonna get worse as long as Obama is around, with his deceptive policies, and unaffordable healthcare plan. Just saying. God's grace be with Obama. Keep us updated. God bless you, and your family! (FYI) Expressions used in this post are not intended to bash a particular party, or politician. Not a opinion, just stating a FAQ. Apologies in advance.

I was thinking maybe 6ocm, as a rough estimate...? Anyhoo, loving your work, as usual!

God bless you as well.

Daschlenn there certainly is aaanddd the website owner for the destiny stl site has upgraded or rewrote the code to the program. the files are much much cleaner and tighter and he offers a zip file of all the individual pieces for the model you want, separated. how cool is that.(sorry my age is showing, i am probably the first person to age out here, wait no i am not)

I made the mistake of getting the one-piece file for the helmet I'm currently finishing up... that was definitely not clean at all LOL :p

@Termhn when he first made them available they were worse. both the female and male files were overlapping each other not including the fact that the models are comprised of many different smaller models. bungie definitely did not make easy for us. i love the game style though. mesh welding each piece together and then aligning and then cutting details into it. lots of fun.

example: helm of saint 14

Bungie, love hate right now. love hate

I see.

Yes, lots. Especially when you have to maintain pretty much perfect topology in order for subd to look good :devil

I wasnt waiting on them. The chances of me doing a Halo 4 varient soon are highly unlikely as i would like to get some other props like the Mechagodzilla head that Master Builder and your Light Beyond Nemisis did for me. I was just going to wait and ask if i needed to when if i did one. However youve beaten me to asking! Thanks a lot and dont worry about getting me an updated file, I will have more time eventually haha.
