It's about time! Exams are over and ready to chill with some Pepakura work. Guess what helmet is it?

Checking the alignment of the helmet for any warps. Looking good at this point

I kinda modified the top part a little(triangular piece towards the forehead) because the original pep file has it sticking out way too much compared to the original design. I'll be adding my own sooner or later. At this point of time, I'd say the pep stage is about 65-70% completed thus far.

Just needs the top and the circular thingy behind and it's done!!

these are the templates of the details I'll be adding later. as some of you might know, i don't fancy working with bondo

A Magnum to go with my suit, not the best but it will do the trick just fine

Wow! Your armour's looking awesome! Nice work on the very clean pep work on the new helmet too, taking your time is paying off for sure! Just a tip, to the right of the "reply with quote" button, there's a "reply with multiple quotes" button. Just press it on all the posts you want to quote, then hit the reply to thread button to address them all in the same post.

Great work so far, happy building :)

Thanks man! Your H4 Chief build is way more freaking awesome than mine. and i agree with you, i don't like making weapons with the sliced technique

Front holes thingy.

For those who are wondering what did i use to add those details, i used thin mounting boards which can be bought from craft stores. These mounting boards are rather thick, but flexible enough to be curved into the shape you desire. The thickness of the mounting board is 2mm. The reason i used this method to add my details is because, as some of you might know, I don't fancy using Bondo unless i really need to like smoothing surfaces. In this case i don't. I MIGHT get some hate for this XD

What kind of shins could this be?? :0 (Clue: The answer is within the picture :])

ANSWER: Halo 4 MARK V Shins
2013-12-11005856_zpsa19e7e52.jpg

This is the basic Halo 4 Mark V shins done. The next step is detailing

2013-12-12210050_zpsd391030f.jpg

Found a pair of cheap football/soccer shin guards to be attached to the shins themselves.

This is the only reference picture i have during the process of making the shin.

Knee cap pieces done! These little buggers took me 5 tries to get them perfectly shaped. I tried my best.

Halo 4 Mark V shins finished! some places might look a little warped because of how the foam bends a little while being placed to get the picture taken

I actually use a similar method for creating some of my detail. I usually use 1.5mm mat board, which is similar to the mounting board you're using. Most of the raised detail on my Mk VI torso was achieved using this method.

Looking very good so far. Keep it up!

This is a very well done helmet jeez. Can you send me a link for the pepakura file? Also, how are you going to do the visor? Ive been looking for someone who knows how to apply the visor to helmets. Cheers!

Some members use motorcycle visors as their visors, but for me i use sunshade cover thingy( I can't explain-.-). AFter cutting them out, i huse some hot glue to hold it in place, tjen add more hot glue/epoxy resin to finish it up ;) Hope this helps!

So I decided to buy a can of Plastidip and give it a shot like everyone suggested.

20131217_175541_zpsaqiicl7f.jpg

Well what do ya know, it works like a charm!

20131217_172154_zpsdzcfg9wr.jpg

Plastidipped the shins!

20131217_181319_zps3rdlrnpu.jpg

Primed and painted the first coat of Cherry Red on my shins and shoulder pieces :)

I'm real sorry guys as I can't show you how the helmet look like after the first resin and fibreglass stage because somehow my phone didn't save the shots properly -.-. Anyway, here are some shots of the helmet as of now, when the pictures are posted

20131219_153311_zpsz2qxbadv.jpg

Done fibreglassing the inside

PicsArt_1387438737124_zpsjaumzdoe.jpg

Primed the helmet! Didn't turn out as smooth as I'd hope but im still satisfied with the looks of it ^_^. Some parts are scuffed a little as i ran over it with some sandpaper

2013-12-20233805_zpsd1719f72.jpg

I didn't know i was able to add such fine detail. Well, you never try, you'll never know how far you can go. Though it took me a painstaking 2 hours, it was well worth it. Not to mention it nearly drove me insane cutting them out from a 2mm mounting board.

I really like how clean the fiberglass looks in the helmet. I threw away half a sheet of fiberglass cloth, due to the mess it became from it not staying put half way through. Lessons learned first hand I guess. Is the mounting board you used masonite? Because if it is, I'd be very interested in trying that on future armor pieces. Great work dude.

One trick i've learned from some other 405th member is to use spray-on adhesive inside your pepakura peice then sticking your Fibreglass pieces on. This will drastically reduce the fibreglass cloth/mat from moving around when applying your resin
