I'm back! What's up, 405th? Long-time no-see! After a good year(ish) long hiatus I'm back to building Halo armor! I'm sorry to say it, but Halo 4 was a disappointment for me. Granted the midnight release was a blast, but the game itself was pretty lacking in my opinion. The disappointment made me feel like giving halo stuff a break so I ended up working on stuff from 40k, RuneScape, and Star Wars. You can find some of my work on my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Nayrdeathexp

Anyways yeah, so though I kinda dislike the game, I still want to make armor from it. I'm planning on a Locus helmet, Vanguard torso, and Rogue shoulders. I haven't determined what I want for the rest, but I will soon. Hopefully this suit will be way better than my old one (lights, speakers, detailed undersuit, better paint, and more accurate design). Alongside this I'll also be helping my girlfriend make her own suit as well, as we hope to wear them to Fanime this summer.

This is what it looked like after two hours of work:

100_1800_zps7d51480e.jpg

And this is where I'm at so far. Yes, it's plasti-dipped, I wanted to see what it'd look like with some paint on it. I still have some details and other aspects of it to work on before I paint it, but right now I'm almost out of foam.

I plan on putting an screen on this that displays vitals, heart-rate, and all that good stuff. It won't be real, of course, but will look pretty cool.

Apologies for the quality of the photos, I could use a new camera. :/

Thanks for looking! Feel free to ask questions/comment/and critique. I always love feedback! :D

*Update*

Thought I'd take a moment to showoff my hard work. I got sick of looking at my vanguard torso and decided to look into building the Recon torso, so I downloaded the .pdo, scaled it, and then as I went to print it... My printer decided it "Wasn't feelin' it today". So, I decided to start a scratch build. Kinda nervous about how it looks, never built something this complex from scratch before. Anyways, here goes:

100_1831_zpsbb7ac2f2.jpg

100_1833_zpsbc5c1fe3.jpg

100_1834_zps9e0e7674.jpg

100_1835_zps494edacd.jpg

Still got a long way to go, but hey, it's a start. Also, I feel as though I should apologize because shortly after I finished my last post, I started to play Halo 4 again and realized that a whole lot has changed! Halo 4 is a pretty damn good game now. I really hated it at first because the lag was a nightmare, but now it's so... smooth. (Like Keystone...?)
So, good job, 343. It turned out pretty nice.

Anyways folks, Hope you like how it's coming along. If anyone wants to throw out some critiques on it, feel free. I started studying up on foam recently, and this is kind the fruit of my research.

Looking really good. Starting my foam build as soon as I figure out the measuring thing, if its the same as pep or not.

Dude can't wait to see your attempt at a locus helmet! Mine is ready to be resined but I need a place to do it. Have fun with the front facial details. Those angles are a real pain in the ass. I've got a thread for it buried real deep in the noob forum. Its been dormant for about 2 months.

I've already pepped the helmet back when it came out. Yeah, it was probably the most annoying and tedious thing I've ever done. Haha!

Assuming you're referencing scale, it is.

*UPDATE*

Today after work I managed to get some work done:

100_1837_zps6cfe14e3.jpg

100_1841_zps7f2325d2.jpg

I love using foamies for details, it makes the outside look detailed, but keeps the inside so simple and basic:

100_1842_zpsa5287782.jpg

Well, that's all I've got done this evening. Hope to get a little more done when I wake up, and after work tomorrow; so hope for a big update tomorrow!

Wow. Wow! Yeah, mine doesn't look nearly that clean on the inside (or the outside...). Heh...it was the very first piece, though. After working on that chest for so long, I'd know it anywhere. It's lookin mighty amazing! I love the idea of adding details as I go, so I may need to go with that instead of simply building first and then adding details. You are selling it quite well. ^^ The sharp "metal-y" edges are my favorite part.

I will certainly be watching!

Thank you very much, I greatly appreciate the positive feedback! :D
This is all a scratch build, I make templates as I need them; But once I cut out a part, I cut out the foam details for that same part, since the template is close by. If I have to make a detail piece that goes between parts or on a seam, I just eye-ball it and hope it works lol. Also I'm lazy and try to make large templates to save time and effort, so that's why my inside is so clean and simple. Hope that all makes sense, it's hard translating the stuff that goes on in my head. Haha.

Looking pretty damn great! Hope you find out how to get around that design flaw 343 made when designing the chest ha with the collar. But really it's looking awesome!!

*UPDATE*

I'm back, with a big update. The torso is now 80% complete! :D

N NNNNNYYYYAAAA!!!!
100_1854_zpseb7ef34d.jpg

Showing off how it fits. I don't really like how the wings look, might redo them in the future.

100_1866_zpsa589bbd2.jpg

100_1868_zps3ce61c32.jpg

I had to tweak the collar piece. As Levi mentioned above, it's poorly designed and will interfere with the chin piece of my Locus helmet. Still got a ways to go... Bulk up the wings, detail the back, plasti-dip, and paint.
Until next time, folks!

-Ryan

*EDIT* Just saw your comment, Levi. Thank you for the kind words! :)

*UPDATE*

Earlier today I managed to finish up the back, which means...

100_1871_zps011fe8ad.jpg

100_1870_zpse974cb41.jpg

... PAINTING TIME!

100_1873_zps6634fa3e.jpg

Kinda dreading it for a few reasons,
1. Using two new paints: Metallic dark grey, and 'Hot rod' red.
2. As of 10:29pm it's plasti-dipped and partially masked off, and I can feel the plasti-dip sticking too firmly to the tape.
3. Had to freehand the design of the 'skin' due to lack of good reference photo.

I feel this may turn out really good... or really bad.

Odin's RAVEN that looks good!... Well done mate... Kudo's for taking your time and patiently seeing this through! Impressive.

Wow that's really good, definitely did an awesome job detailing it with the crafting foam!
Thank you!

Thank you very much. And 'Odin's Raven'... Good term, I'm going to have to use that one in the future! :D

*UPDATE*

Sorry I didn't post these sooner. It's been a long weekend. So here's my torso armor. All finished and ready for battle.

100_1878_zpsacc796ce.jpg

100_1882_zps75857540.jpg

100_1881_zps3587b0f7.jpg

When it came to the white details, I tried to just barely dust on the white, to give it that "stenciled military" look.

100_1883_zps01e0e66a.jpg

100_1884_zpsba53a301.jpg

Also, I installed a buckle so I don't have to dislocate my shoulders every time I take it off.

100_1886_zpsdbe1327c.jpg

100_1887_zpsa1c14d2c.jpg

As I was finishing the chest I started work on some shoulder pads..

100_1876_zps35caeb34.jpg

... And currently they look like this. Still got a lot more painting to do.

100_1888_zps21a022d9.jpg

Well I hope everyone likes it. Comments/questions always welcome.

Wow! Your armour's shaping up fantastically! Everything is so... clean... the foam, the paint, everything! That paint job also makes me wanna build another spartan after Master Chief just so I can have a bit more artistic licence with the colour scheme :p . Really nice work on this, can't wait to see more :)

nice scratch build. i really like the recon torso and the way you create the sidestrapping. :) keep it up

Thank you! And definitely do that, personal builds are fun and open to creativity.

My vote is really good! It's looking amazing! Great colors and I echo great work detailing with the craft foam.
Thank you! I was so worried the paint would look bad, you have no idea. Haha.

Thanks! I was surprised the hot glue stuck to the buckle so well.

Your paint is phenomenal, I am VERY impressed.

Got my shoulders all finished today.

Here they are with the torso. They may be a little bit bigger than they are in-game, but I'm okay with that. When it comes to armor, I prefer big pauldrons. *Maybe that's why I think Space Marines are cool..*

100_1896_zps7f86c618.jpg

I think I'm gonna take the rest of the day off from armoring. Take care, folks!
