Halo 4 Recon Build + 3D Printer Projects

okay, today i got the chance to ask the employees of an nearby and big electronic market to use their 3D printer for personal stuff. they build one up and the whole day its printing some useless stuff and copy them a hundred times ^^

they gave me the permission to work with the 3D printer and tomorrow iam going to print the first parts of a random M6H magnum for testing purpose. its a fabbster 3D printer with working range of 250x250x210mm. its just perfect ^^
the good thing... they print anyway... so its going to be free ^^

its great. the other thing is, that i want to join an nearly FabLab. hope its gona be great and okay to use there 3D printer to create the whole armor ^^

here are some pictures of my current helmet. the new technique i just tried out is really great. carving the rubber like body filler ^^ saves some hours sanding ^^

Most of the details gona be add by plastic sheets stacked and glued on top of the surface. after that i will send the edges. thats the resin my i trim the side with a dremel. next weekend i could continue my work and hope to get this done by sunday. after that the helmet is nearly ready to paint.
The other thing i have to add is a removeable backside of the neckseal and implement some magnets to get a nice lock mechanic.

btw: for the chest ive chosen the CIO chest which is gona done by myself (with the help of the released cio chest piece).

Okay, yesterday i got my new 3D CTC Printer. the printer is really great, but i missed some parts (the pipes for the filament connected to the back side and the extruder).

Currently ive set up an UStream Livestream for my own purpose but you can watch it as well:

the first halo based piece i want to print is the Halo 4 Battle Rifle (For CNC Machines)


actually, this file isnt such CNC optimized... ive edited the file and slice it in diffrent pieces. add some holes for the connectors and tried to carve the magazine hole out, because there is a magazine but not a big enough magazine shaft to hold the mag.

there are plenty of horrible errors so i let it go

now iam printing the barrel. its the first piece and will take about 5-6 hours to complete. the whole battle rifle will take about 50-60hours of printing time. casting is faster but printing is cheaper ^^



i already know what to print after the battle rifle. the shoulder attachments and the handplates:

i had some major problems with the Front piece of the BR where the barrel is attached.
first of all. after 8 hours of printing the raft doesnt hold enough on the building plattform and the piece started to warp.
i started again with a lower printing resolution in layer height (0,2mm instead of 0,1mm) to reduce the printing time down to 12 hours.
the second try starts warping after 2 hours printing time. another try with more glue stick on the printing plattform gave some better results.

the sad thing is, that some of the layers arent really well connected to the layer underneath. i have to fill the gab with bondo until i get the weapon glued together.
but here it is... after 12:32h printing time the next piece is done... a pretty tough one for sure.



Update: 22./23.04.14

Today i ruined the pre-installed kapton tape layed on top of my printing bed. its actually a really cheap tape foil. Unluckily that was my only kapton tape... so i ordered a constant printing bed which makes the tape redundant.
i hope it came tomorrow. But the tape is damaged so i printed another piece and remove the tape tomorrow.

The trigger area is ready and the next piece will be done tomorrow and printed in blue ... white is out of stock ^^



again... its warped a little bit but the gab will be fixed with bondo.

can someone send me the recon helmet pep files pls? i have been trying to find them everywhere and they just seem to don't exist xD

just try to refrain posting in it if it is 3+ months older...

I would suggest sending the creator a PM, It will likely be seen much sooner.
