Greetings 405th,

I am doing another foam build for my son's halloween costume this year. Previously, we had done Halo's Arbiter and LOTR Sauron

October has been particularly busy at home and work this year, so I wanted something simpler than that Sauron costume. The Witch King has been done a lot by adults online, but only the helmet exists as a pepakura file.

New tools this year were foam putty and a hot wire foam cutter for angled edges.

Lotr witch king foam build continued

The foam putty helped fill gaps between foam pieces. I applied it generously and then gently sanded it down.

Lotr witch king continued...

One step I didn't photograph was putting a couple coats of watered down ModPodge on before I Plasti-dipped. This was the first year I had tried this. It firmed up the pieces. Also, the plasti-dip seemed to go on smoother and the foam didn't suck it up as much as before.

A download link for the Witch King Helmet is on this page. For the rest of the armor I got some inspiration from this blacksmith/metal worker at http://www.steltercreativewoodworks.com. Clearly foam can't compete with real metal, but lots of reference pictures are shown to guide one's efforts.
