Hello everyone here at the 405th! If you are reading this, then that means you've taken time out of your day to stop and check on my humble little build-in-progress, and for that I thank you.

First off, a brief introduction. Hi! My name is Chloe, and I've been super obsessed with Halo for a very long time. I've always been interested in papercraft as well, and actually have been building paper models for several years now. I was first introduced to the idea of armor building a few years ago, when I went to a free comic book day event, and there where some guys from the 501st there in their armor. I chatted with them briefly, and when I got home, checked out the site. I was instantly drawn in by all the awesome armors people had built. I so wanted to build my own someday, but had no idea where to begin. Eventually, I stumbled across the 405th website while looking for at different papercraft models. I joined up immediately, and watched from the sidelines as people built fantastic suits of armor. I finally got the time and courage to attempt my own, and that brings us here to this post.

So, I originally began by starting an Agent Carolina build due to my love of Red vs. Blue (a build which is currently sitting off to the side begging me to return to it, and I will make a thread for it eventually). After struggling with that for a bit, I decided to attempt a different project. I originally decided to build a suit of Mjolnir Mark V armor, using the basic combat evolved files, and modify it to make it look more advanced after building it. I eventually scrapped that idea, but not before building and mostly resinning the helmet :p

What I decided to do instead, was to build the upper half (the helmet, chest, arms, and shoulders) using the Halo 4 multiplayer version of the mark V, and the lower half I would custom build myself. So far, I've begun on both the helmet and chest.

Nice to see people taking time to do neat, clean pep work. It really is the most important part and it looks like you're off to a great start!!
Good luck with the build, and keep those nice high res photos coming:]

It's all looking very clean. My only tip would be to keep up the good work. :)

Thank you everyone who has commented so far! I'm really glad you all think everything looks clean and neat. It's really nice to hear opinions from someone other than myself, since I think I tend to be more overcritical of my own work than I should be.

I've unfortunately been sick the past couple of weeks, so I haven't made much progress since my last post, and I apologize for the lack of updates because of that. I have made some minor progress on the top of the helmet though, so I'm going to try to post a few pics of that tomorrow. I've been starting to feel better, so hopefully I'll be able to make better progress on a more even schedule over the coming weeks.

Sorry for updates being so few and far between, but I've been rather busy lately and haven't had much time for armor work.

These latest progress shots are from my work on the top of the helmet. Mainly the visor and the upper back.

Nice work mate, your folds and joins are very clean. Any idea what colour you want to paint it when done?

Nice work mate, your folds and joins are very clean. Any idea what colour you want to paint it when done?

I was originally going to paint it in a classic master chief green, but now I'm debating whether to do that, or do it based off my halo 4 armor colors, which are yellow with ice blue accents.

I painted mine white to match my avatar since the Combat Evolved days.

Color it what speaks most to you.

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been absent for a while. Real life decided to tackle me head on and it's made getting any free time a real hassle. Anyway, I'm hoping to try and get back on a regular schedule of building, and start posting more frequently. I have made some more progress the past couple of days though. Not much, but its a start.

Well, as others have said, and I am sure you have read before, the pep stage is arguably the most important phase of a build. It is your foundation. You, so far, have NAILED it!

Keep up the stunning work. I love watching builds like this (even if they do seem to take forever.... nudge, nudge :) )!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you think I'm doing good so far. It's comments like this that really keep me going and give me all the more drive to finish :)

I've actually made some more progress this morning, and will probably have even more done by tonight! I'm almost finished with the upper portion of the helmet, and then all that's left is the right cheek portion. After that, I'll be diverting all my focus to the torso!

The top of the helmet is complete! I was able to finish up the last bits of the top portion last night, and will begin work on the final piece of the helmet, the right "cheek," today! After that I'll assemble the helmet, resin it, and then I'll be setting it aside and working on the pep stage of the rest of the armor till I can order some smoothcast. As soon as I can get some smoothcast I'll be jumping right back onto finishing the helmet completely.

Looks great so far! Great choice for your first build
I personally think the Mark V or marine armor is a good way to start if you have never built costumes before
Newer armors have crazy little details that make you mad sometimes lol

Hello again! Sorry I've been away for a while. Life got pretty hectic, and I didn't really have the time or energy to work on armor building at all. But I've finally gotten some free time and so I am back! I ended up working on my helmet all of last night, and I am happy to report that I have completed the pepakura stage!

It came out even better than I had expected, and is holding together quite nicely. It fit pretty well before sealing it up completely, and with a few adjustments near the end, it should be a breeze to wear. I'm thinking of doing a rubber neck seal back like Impact Props did on a few of their helmets.

I am planning on resining it this afternoon, and then will be stopping work on it again till I can afford the next stage of supplies. However, I will not be stopping work completely, while as I wait to continue the helmet, I'll be working on the rest of the armor pieces! I'll be starting with the torso, as I had already begun work on it prior to focusing on the helmet. I'll make sure to keep this thread updated as I progress :)

And for a little fun, some comparison shots of my recently pepped helmet with my cancelled original attempt:

Looks good, nice pep work :)

Make sure you add supports for the visor and brim if there is nothing to pep in its place or your helmet will warp. The key at this stage will be *light* coats of resin, outside, inside, outside, inside to give it some strength. Be careful not to over saturate the paper and you'll be fine.

Thank you :) I was definitely planning on adding supports, though I couldn't figure out exactly where to add them and what to make them out of. Do you have any suggestions?

Well the weather turned pretty sour, so I wasn't able to work on resining the helmet at all. I also ended up working on the left shoulder or pauldron piece before the torso. It was a fairly simple piece and so I managed to finish it completely yesterday! I've now started work on the torso piece, though that will definitely take much longer than the shoulder. Hopefully though if I can keep moving at this speed, I could possibly have it finished within a week. Guess we'll just have to wait and find out though.

Anyway, the shoulder piece came out quite nice. It's just the right length, and while it is a bit wide on my actual arm, it should work just fine once I add some internal padding.
