I first started this sculpt two years ago but school and exams got in the way :( well Ive finally finished it and got my first cast of it out! :D this was and still is my first full helmet sculpt/mold/casting

The original piece was made by melting Chavant clay into a pepakura model of the helmet and slowly worked out the angles and added all the detail, a pasta press makes adding large raised detail SO much easier!

The molding stage, I learnt a lot from doing such a large jacket mold for the first time... namely you need to cut the piece out otherwise it tears >.<

its a japanese brand of polyurethane resin! similar to smooth on's stuff but cheaper and slightly worse properties :p

After the clay step how did you fill the inside of the buck? It looks like expanding foam. Great job BTW.

Once I had poured a couple layers of clay into the pepakura helmet, I placed a duct tape copy of my head inside the piece and then poured the rest of my clay into the helmet locking the head in. The head was filled with expanding foam and the expanding foam you see around the bottom was just put there to widen the base to make sure the sculpt didnt tip over when I was working on it :p

Fantastic work!! Very clean, very smooth....you couldn't have asked for a cleaner pull. Great job.

well the surface isnt as smooth as it would be had it not been a sculpture, its got a couple marks on the surface that show that its hand sculpted out of clay but not bad for one of my first sculpts! :)

Just a quick teaser before I post up photos of all the delicious lights inside tomorrow!

I made this photo to show those who liked my facebook page the difference that a black wash, some weathering and good lighting will do for a prop!

That is beautiful. I really like the paintjob and the weathering you did ! :)

thanks but if you liked that, just wait till you check this out!

I finally got all the lights in! added them where you usually see them on the in game model, I added extra lights inside the ear sections as well as I thought it looked good!

Painted using only acrylic paints... which in my opinion was a mistake... took way longer than it should have SMH
BUT it looks great! massively stoked to see my first helmet to completion!

I also added lights with a switch that illuminates my face through the visor and you can see that here, skip to 1:38:

Lighting up your face. Yeah thats legit! It looks really good. I wish I had enough time to make my helmet, or money to buy a cast.
