Hi guys, I'm greg, and I've been working on a Reach Noble 6 suit. For the most part it will be a pretty typical build: pep'd from cardstock with some pieces and parts from EVA later on. Bear with me as I figure out how to link images and format posts correctly. I'm going to try to give a quick overview of where I'm at with the build so far and later get into the details of each piece, any modifications done to a given model and credit to the creators and un-folders of the models used. For the most part I've been getting the .pdo files from the 405th's 4shared Pepakura Database. Big thanks to all those that contributed to it, it has some really great models in it and it's made it pretty easy to find what I needed.

So here is my current progress as it stands (if I link this correctly): 1782_zps2cbb9dfa.jpg
So far, I've got the biceps/shoulders

This looks awesome good job man :)
Thank you! It's taken some time, so I hope it turns out well.

I've got some new photos of the finished pep on the helmet as it is now, hopefully they link correctly:

Quick update: The helmet is completed and I've pepped new versions of the reach forearms in the last couple days as the ones I had made were huge on me. They could easily have fit easily over my biceps and even with eva padding to fit them, they would have been too big. So instead of cutting their sizable diameters down to width, I picked up the pep file for Kat's forearm that were modeled by the same 405th member, Ruze789, and unfolded by HaloGoddess. Scaled to length, they're a bit narrower, fit much better and have an equally good model and have easy to make pep folds.

The difference:

Armor Progress! Got the chest scaled, printed, and all the lines scored. :)
In total it's 37 pages of pep. This is the first time a single model has felt overwhelming in terms of scale. This may take a while:
th_B05DA01B-D205-418A-A31D-B11DD1157BCC_zpsqbiptdsa.jpg
It's the 'Reach Torso V3' model by L3X BLU3R1V3R. It seemed to be the most game accurate and detailed pep model available, so it should look awesome when done.

In side project news, I've gotten a UNSC Knife and Sheath pepped from Carpathiavh99's model (the file also credits Juliet76 on the design/blueprints). It's very well detailed, fairly comfy to hold, and also huge. I think it's as far along as I can get it until it's resin'd and solid. (Should the handle and blade be rondo'd or plastic cast or what? I've got knife build threads to find :) )

Thank you!
Wow great job so far! Love the helmet and the hilt and sheath especially :).

Update: Long time since the last post. I got a little burned out on pep work for a while :(, but I got back to it and I've got progress to show :)!

One 1cm stack of 37 sheets later, the chest is almost finished:

Edit(s): Having tons of problems trying to get pictures to reference locally on the site as proper 405th thumbnails despite my best efforts and watching the 405th video on linking from photobucket. Also trying to avoid a massive wall of photos. I might need help. Thanks for your patience. :unsure

Hello again!

The chest/torso piece is finished, and while I don't think it's the best pep work I've done (as parts of it are slightly warped, notably around the neck seal area and parts of the front and rear center lower sections) it'll be a workable piece. *whew* I'm planning on eventually cutting out the neck seal, arm to torso, and abdominal and lower back sections out once it's resin'd. Those sections will be replaced with eva for the larger/thicker parts and the details remade out of thinner craft foam (probably 2&6mm). Putting larger sections of finished pep together was probably the hardest part of it making it, as the weight of each section tries to pull the joints apart at the tabs.

Also, I've tentatively decided to use a pair of black gloves I already had for this suit. They're a heavy duty pair of gloves I use to protect my hands and knuckles while working on projects, so I think the reinforced back looks the part.

Anyways, you're probably here for the pictures, so here they are:

The finished pep piece:

Hi.
This is just a quick post to show where I'm at as far as my own armor to-do list is concerned. I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep myself on track.
Each part gets labeled/named as it's common part name, gets assigned its own properly scaled Pepakura Designer measurements (Height, width, depth in mm) and scale factor. It also gets assigned statuses for how far along I am in the parts as far as printing, scoring folds, final cuts, folding for assembly, and final pep assembly. As a progress bar for myself, I use the quantity of parts required and quantity of parts completed in a basic percentage by column sum. The percentage of total completed (bottom right %) goes up each time I finish something in pep (it's only semi-quantitative), so it's a big motivational tool for me.

reach to do list.JPGreach to do list.JPG

It also serves as a fairly complete parts list of the specific models I used and hopefully has all the authors listed in bold. If I missed a model or unfold credit to a member here, I'm sorry. I tried to list all of them, but this list is used mostly for my own reference.

After I'm finished with the suit I'll do a fully formatted text and picture post with links to the PDO files used and the finished pieces. I'm fairly certain all of them were found in the 405th's Pepakura Database at any rate, so here's a link to it for people who hadn't found it in the sticky/intro threads yet: http://www.4shared.com/folder/CCB_6QwQ/405th_Pepakura_Database.html.

I found this thread looking for Para knees myself, and now, I'm really glad I have. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to your progress.

It's amazing how nice PEP can look when printed on cardstock! When I first saw the smaller pictures of your torso piece, I thought it was already sanded and primered!

I'm a noob to this group, but a long-time cosplayer and reenactor (my pinterest proves that), and I gotta say, this is shaping up really nice. Keep up the good work!

Agreed, your work is very crisp. The thumbnails looked further along than pep to me as well, haha
I think you've got the few problems with warping that you ran into figured out, Eva is the way to go for comfort anyway.

Thank you! I'm a noob to most of this, so it means a lot to hear it from somone with experience. It's all been going very slowly. I've almost reached a stop since the last update, but I hope to keep moving forward with it despite the colder weather making hardening a problem. So it's mostly planning at the moment for what I can do/use/make later.

Great job so far! Pep looks extremely clean.

Thanks! Wow. I can't believe I hadn't seen your build threads yet. Your EVA and pep'd armor work looks fantastic and the sliced DMR is impressive.

Thanks, it's been hard to get the cardstock to keep the shape that I want them to be, so it's not perfect, but hopefully close enough. I hope that there isn't so much warping to make up for in the bondo/spot putty phase later on. At the moment the parts aren't any further along, so now I have "pep mountain" constructed on the desk. Funny you should mention EVA, as I've been thinking of making certain parts out of it.

Additionally: Sorry that I haven't checked back or updated for weeks. Been busy. However, I do have a small update as far as planning goes (since it's too cold to do hardening). hopefully it attaches properly:
001.JPG

Just a quick sketch. And here's the super secret, very boring explanation of how I make sure my pep is exactly like the 3D files show it (or how the game makes it look) and fits me well:
003.JPG

Nice pep work. I think you are better then I am, the only thing you need to do to make the front collor straight is to use a piece of tape on the edge of it and pull down enough to level it with the other side. After a a week or so with the tape on it will stay that way naturally.

Looking great! Really putting in the time to do it right on your first build... very admirable. Also, nice sketches and concept work for your lighting.

Keep it Up!
