Looks awesome! Great pep work you did there.

Just a quick question: did you use 110LB paper, or something heavier? It's been awhile since I made a pep, and the ones I made didn't turn out as good as this (using 110LB). I'm sure I would do a much better job now. But hey keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words :)
all the card here is in GSM (grams per square meter) and this is made from 210gsm

I did try some simple builds with 160 but it was just a bit to thin.

ill find a GSM to LB converter and work it out in a mo :)

Ok, so 110LB = 163GSM
like I said I really struggled with 160 and found 210 holds it's shape better but the resin makes it almost all the way through when you apply the first coat

Polyester resin inside and out (apart from the tiny patch at the back that I seemed to have missed)

next.... My first attempt at rondo

rondo done, I might have made it a bit thin but the whole thing is going to be fiberglassed inside so should be OK I hope.

next... Fiberglass

Nice work on the rondo. Lot of people are giving me hope I am nervous about doing in my helmet being modular sections. Can't wait to see more.

Good work on the resin work, there doesn't seem to be any visible warping of the model and that's always good.

Looks great man!
I have a question regarding the paper you are using though. I was under the impression that 110lb cardstock was about 300gsm. I could be way off though.

Would you mind linking where you got your 210gsm cardstock from?

Thanks very much for the comments guys :)
So far it's all going well which is nice.

Chewbacca - I got the card from a local arts and crafts store but you can get almost any weight of card on eBay etc.

started the fibreglass work, I'm worried the heat from the curing process will warp the model so I'm doing it in small patches at a time. I'm in no real rush so it doesn't matter if it takes me a few days to complete the glass work... Then the real fun begins :)

With all the rondo, I don't think you will have an issue, well as long as you're not stacking multiple layers on at once. But it's always better to be safe then sorry. If you continue to do patches. I would recommend doing a few in different spots to speed up the process.

Everything looks super clean! Keep up the awesome work!

Looks awesome your Pep work looks freaking fantastic and looks like your doing the same with the resin. Did you ever think of using Rondo (resin/body filler) versus just using resin/fiber glass inside?

Thx master builder & nighthawk for the kind works,

nighthawk - how strong are armor pieces with just rondo inside??? I'm going to be playing rough in my finished armor so I need them to be able to take a few knocks and not crack or shatter.

I started to knock some of the edges off and smooth out the top and back section. Not a very good picture but this is what it looks like right now

It's coming together nicely. Is that just resined cardstock, or did you put bondo on the outside before you started sanding? What grit of sandpaper are you using and how quick is the process?

It's resin'd card and the inside of the helmet has a layer of rondo and a couple of layers of GRP...
I'm trying to get the shape as close as I can by sanding rather than building it up with filler.
I'm using 80 grit at the moment... Resin and card is surprisingly tough to sand :-/

Yeah, I don't think the resin is supposed to take to the sanding as well as the bondo does. If you don't change your method, I'm interested in seeing the result, as every attempt I've yet seen involved adding bondo (or sometimes rondo) to the outside and sanding it back down. It's the route I myself intend to take, especially because I'd like to have as much internal space as I can, and not go filling that up with resin/rondo.

Foxtrot - I'm going to keep going with this method for sure, it's taking a long time but I'm getting the result a want (slowly)
not had the chance to do much more :-( but I did start to remove the visor so no I can see out when I put it on my head :)
