Blam!
What's up 405th?! It's been a minute since I uploaded, but pre-production is still truckin' along. I've got a few more process pics for you. They actually feature 2 new props. The script has been finished and is in the proofreading/editing stage, but it's pretty close to being the final product. Anyway, the script calls for two new props, an
MA5K and a
Spoofer.
MA5K -
So, I built this bad boy back when I was in school. I drew a vector file of each layer then cut it out of acrylic on the Laser Cutter. In hindsight I wish I would have used wood or literally anything but acrylic, lol. If I still had the original file, I would have just re-cut it, but alas, it is on an old hard-drive that has gone the way of the Death Star. I thought I fixed it once, but then it died again and went the way of the second Death Star. Anywho, I decided to modify my already somewhat finished MA5K. I never made a barrel for it, so that was first on my list. Second would be a grip. Below is the model before I added anything:
Below is a drawing of where I wanted to take it. And yes, I'm aware that there are 2 charging handles, I was toying around with which one I liked best.
Then, I grabbed some Aluminum Rod and lathed the crap out of it.
The MA5K fires a 7.62x51 round which is a .308. I kinda cheated and just used an 5/16 drill bit which is .312, but I figured it was close enough. It's not like I'll actually be firing real ammunition out of it... ...or will I? OR WILL I?!!!
sorry. moving on.
Holy crap it's a Barrel. That's really all I've accomplished so far. I've tried a few different methods to get the grip going, but nothing has been working as well as I want. I was gonna mill it out of wood, but the wood I have doesn't machine very well, I think I've decided to sculpt it out of chavant. It'll give me a little more freedom and then I can mold it and cast it out of a soft resin, giving it a nice grip-like feeling... yeah, the good stuff... mmmmmm... sorry again.
Spoofer -
The Spoofer is a door hacking device that can only ever be seen for like 5 seconds in Halo CE. So reference was SUPER easy to come by... /sarcasm. Anyway, I modeled it in Solidworks based on the best pictures I could find, then I took the file to the shop at my school to print out the mechanical drawing. Then I realized that the Solidworks I have at work is 2015 and the Solidworks at school is 2013, so instead of being patient, waiting a day, and down saving it, I decided to be ridiculous and just draft it from memory by hand... No Regrets... well, maybe a few, but I think it turned out pretty close to my original model.
This guy was turning out pretty good, but I was having trouble getting the grooves right. They look Okay in the pic, but close up they're a bit wonky, so I cut the pieces apart and routed the edges, so when they're fastened together, they'll look a lot better.
The face will be hollowed out and there will be a screen inside. It's a little LCD TV module that has a Composite in cable, so I'm going to hook it up to my iPod which will be housed inside the prop as well. I have an ancient 5G iPod Video that has a video-out function. So there will be a video playing with the interface on it. I also will be making buttons for the front. I may sculpt and cast those as well, because in my search, I haven't been able to find any the right size or shape. Also, they should be clear so they can light up, because... you know... lights are neat.
I'll keep all yinz updated and post some more pics soon. Questions/Comments/Criticism, all welcome.
