Hey everyone, thought I would post some progress on my latest non-Halo build: a RWBY concept weapon for the unreleased character Qrow. Since he is unreleased, and his weapon is very similar to Ruby's Crescent Rose, I figured I'd give my own design to the weapon. For the most part it'll look like Ruby's, but when it's all done there will be some visual differences. And because I don't like an easy project, I've decided to make it transformable! SO Here's some updates:

Started with a Nerf Longshot and hacked off the back stock. Then took off the front barrel and opened it up to get access to the inner cylinder so I could flip it to be external.

Added a little shark fin to a length of PVC pipe and fed that into the now external tube. This allows the external tube to slide up and down by 6", and will provide the slide up motion for the blade later.

Opened the gun up....lots of springs went flying everywhere lol. But had to open it to make sure I wouldn't cut through anything important to install the pieces of plastic at the back of the gun. These pieces allow me to attach the new back stock, and take it off when I transform it to gun mode. Those plastic pieces cam from some old toy lightsabers I had which then led to.....

The detachable stock! The first pic is of the scythe at full length and the second is of it all broken up.

I'll post more pics as I work on it, definitely need to fix the paint issue.

UPDATE!!

Got 1 half of the panels for the blade made. I'll need to trace out and cut all these pieces again for the other side and then link them together. I used 1/8 plywood sheets for this to make it as light as possible, but depending upon how well it holds up I may switch to PVC sheets later on. I also made the center block that the blade will attach to with a 2"x2"x6' piece. Bored first with a 1 1/4" bit, then a 7/8" bit so the block will sit snug on the block and the Nerf darts will still fly through. I'll post some more pics after the weekend.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

UPDATE!! Had a very nice weekend to work on this, so I managed to get a lot done. So much so that all I really have to do is paint it and make two more attachments with epoxy and I'm done. Here are some more progress pics:

With all the pieces cut out I started to attach them using 1/4" bolts and nuts, as well as special anchor nuts that allow bolts to enter from both sides.

There's always time to goof off lol. Derp Wolverine!

And here's the whole thing assembled extended and also collapsed. The last pic shows what it looks like when the main gun housing is attached. Even with all this attached it barely pushes past 20lbs! The weather isn't going to be that great this week, but I still hope to have this finished by next week.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

UPDATE!! Well, it's not 100% finished just yet. A few minor tweaks here and there, but for the most part it is done. When I do have it 100% I plan to release a video showing it open and close and everything. But for now, here are some more pics:

Gave the whole thing a custom black and white paint job. I wanted to make it look elegant yet simplistic as Qrow is older and thus would have made his weapon during the war, before everything was focused on art and color. I also put Qrow's symbol on the main housing of the scythe. The last pic shows what I used for holding up the back part of the scythe. It is a 4.5" door latch, usually designed for shed doors.

And here it is fully extended and fully contracted. I'm probably gonna change how the bottom stock sits on the top when it's folded up, just cause I think it looks goofy how it sits up so high. I'll post pics once everything is squared away and I'll be sure to definitely get that video up.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

Sorry for the lack of updates. The scythe is completed now (Although I may redesign the bottom attachment so it appears less flimsy), but I'm waiting on a friend who is a photographer to take some nice pics of the prop. Maybe even shoot another demonstration video.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

Sorry to bring back up and old post, but I did promise some nice finished pics of the scythe. Here are a few shots from a convention I recently went to and I plan on making another unfolding video. I strengthened the bottom portion of the scythe so now I can swing it around without worrying about it breaking off.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

I'm not particularly into RWBY, but that turned out super awesome. :D

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

Well done! I love the direction you took this, and it turned out fantastic.

Re: RWBY QROW Sniper Scythe

It's the Final Update! Do do do dooo. do do dododo.

Since RWBY Vol.3 has official landed, and I have gotten to see what Uncle Qrow's weapon truly looks like, this will be the final update to this thread before it goes dark. I figured I'd make one last video that goes into full detail of how the scythe transforms and what pieces I used to make it all happen. Thank you everyone for the positive feed back you have given me, as well as anyone else who wishes to voice their opinions. Now it's on to building his actual weapon when more details are released =)
