This is my first proper thread on my current armor build, which is going to be based off of a character build in Halo: Reach. Along with the armor, i'll be doing a few weapon builds. Namely the Ma5c ICWS, M395 DMR, W/AV M6 G/GNR (Spartan Laser), ARC-920 Railgun, and the Type 1 Energy Sword. Currently, i'm in the stage of constructing all the armor/weapon parts out of pep templates, and will move on to fibreglassing/casting once the appropriate chemicals arrive. I'll have the pep files listed at the bottom of this post, along with credit to the creators (most, if not all of these files were found on the 405th database). I have my methods of construction outlined for just about everything, and I'll keep the thread updated with any progress or advice i come across. I'll be working through the armor first, then moving onto the weapons (namely experimenting with a acrylic casting idea i hatched for the Energy Sword blades), and i'll more than likely update with some photos later down the line

Pepakura files:
Note: The majority armor files are scaled to fit a person of 182 cm (6' 0") in height. So keep in mind these files may need to be scaled accordingly

I got the majority of my files either from this link: http://www.4shared.com/folder/B6UyMkbC/Mjolnir_Mk.html?detailView=true&sortAsc=true&sortsMode=NAME or from the 405th database (things like .obj files uploaded by Chernobyl)

Thanks, and I don't have a particular deadline on the weapons, or on the suits either really. I don't imagine i'll have both suits completed by the end of this year, just because of material availability, but i should get one up to par (hopefully)

I have time restrictions like school, which is why I've set a fairly large time frame. I've got a decent amount of experience in foam builds (I've done a few props for friends before), and i'm looking to broaden my horizons with fibreglass. I don't expect it should take too long, but my main restrictions are materials (fibreglass is a lot cheaper than EVA foam here in NZ), and my other commitments

An event deadline can be a really good goal to motivate, also try roughly breaking the project up into "equal" sections and spread them out to get an idea of how you are tracking time-wise. It doesn't matter if the time frames are too long or short for each bit, you they may balance out and at least means time wont slip away from you so much.

Just what I have found works/worked/would have helped in my build

Yeah, I'm planning to get all of the processes dome simultaneously (pep work, fibreglassing, painting, etc). And i'm kinda hoping to have at least one completed by the end of July (because i am contemplating using it at an upcoming convention). But I don't want to rush anything and risk any setbacks

My mkV (h4 files) took around 2 months to pep, resin and slush cast, spending about 2-4 hours a night through the week and most of the weekend while doing the paper. the resin etc was a bit slower due to to the waiting part but I think I still got out there and did stuff most nights. The sanding and paint preparation took January till late March, and the painting happened over 2 weekends.

I hope that helps with time frame. Some thing I worked out with the resin (I used polyester fiberglass resin) don't bother if it's going to be a cold or damp night. I resined my torso and thought it had kicked before I left it to cure, the next morning it was still just gelled until the sun really hit it, this resulted in the paper turning soggy and deforming.

But I don't want to rush anything and risk any setbacks

totally agree with that, you dont want to get to the end of these many many hours and wish you had spent 15 minutes more on this join, or another touch up on this panel which you can't go back on

Alright guys, I figured it was time for an update on my work.

I hoped to have more done by this point, but i'm currently resolving sizing issues with the chest and shins, as well as having my time eaten up by work.

So currently I have my helmet constructed (after scrapping the first due to severe warping)
Pep helmet.jpgPep Helmet 1.jpg

The left arm components, with the Tacpad taped temporarily to the forearm( I have the hand plates constructed too, but i don't have an image of them)
Pep Bicep + Forearm.jpg

And the left thigh

I also have one of the boots constructed as well. I am currently resolving sizing issues with the shins and chest, and have started some superficial construction on the Ma5D. I may end up re-doing the white components, as that cardstock seems to be a lighter weight, and is a little prone to warping. I'll update with the rest of my pep work once i complete the chest and have everything prepped for glassing.

I'd also like to take the chance to thank everyone for they're advice so far, and in the future. I've taken it on board, and it's helped with future planning.

Haha thanks! I knew i wasn't alone on this forum :) Also, as a little mini update, I've got all my re sized templates printed, and should have a substantial update in due time.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the kind words. I did hope to update by now with some substantial progress, but time has been scarce, and will be a lot more scarce in the near future. So i'll spare you guys an update containing only a boot and a shin, and i'll update when i have the rest of my pep work complete

It's been a while since I've updated progress on here, as school and other commitments have eaten up my time (as is the bane of every hobby). But i have managed to construct all of the templates required for the armour, and have proceeded to resin and fibreglass. I've been rather restricted by the weather as to when i can do fibreglassing (as the resin i am using is humidity sensitive), and the fact it's now essentially winter where i live isn't aiding much. I'll provide pictures when i can find the free time to take some, but with schoolwork, and other side projects, this has been pushed out to my secondary deadline of next year, but i expect i should have the hard work done by then.
