Halo: Reach Security Helmet base layer idea

So, I'm making a set of Halo: Reach armor that has some pieces of the default armor and some custom stuff.
An idea that came to me when searching these forums was using a motorcycle helmet like the one at this link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251252788718?lpid=82&chn=ps) to start off my Reach Security helmet seems to be a great alternative to the immense amount of work making a pepakira Security helmet from scratch.

What are your thoughts, and do you think this would be too pricey considering I'm also buying a motocross jacket and maybe some higher-end pants for the rest of my SPARTAN-III armor?

Here's another helmet I found that's more like what I'm going for, a slightly flattened-visor "military police" style from Reach.

the first is a great choice! and would work well enough for a custom security helm! what will you be using to build up the rest of the helm? do you own a motorcycle?

I'm using layers of foam and hot glue to make the parts of the helm I need, everything from the big pieces on the top to the lights on the side.
After some consideration I scrapped the "Security" helm idea and decided on something else, though. Links below.

I don't have any motorcycle-type vehicle now aside from a mountain bike, unfortunately
When it's done, this armor is gonna be my main outfit for cons and random meetups for a while though!
