Hey everyone, thought I'd share my latest build. I'm building two Dragonslayer swords from the manga/anime Berserk. This is my first time working with polystyrene foam (insulation foam) and as you can tell from some of the pics, I've had some trial and error with cutting and sanding it. It's a nice lightweight material, especially for this build as the sword will be over 6' long when finished. Luckily I had some spare pieces around to test paint, primer, and plastidip on to see what would and wouldn't work. Turns out, primer isn't bad as long as it is in small doses, then I'll follow it up with acrylic paint to avoid any actual spray paint. I'll keep posting pics as it comes along, but here are the most recent pics I've taken:

3 Weeks later, both swords are complete. I made them as accurate to the anime as possible. They are 75 1/2" inches long, the blades are 2" thick (Anime says 3" so I was close). With how lightweight this foam is, it can easily be wielded one handed just like Guts does in the anime. The only thing left to do now is start working on some Berserk armor and a wrist mounted crossbow for the cosplay.
