Hello, I'm almost finished with the helmet for my Warlock so I decided I should make a thread for it. The helmet is the Skull of Dire Ahamkara. The plan is to make the Deathsinger's Mantle to go with it.

For the helmet pattern I got this foam file from AtombombStudios on etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/226797630/destiny-warlock-helmet-skull-of-dire?ref=shop_home_active_8

I modified the pattern for certain parts and didn't use it at all for others(the horns, teeth, jaws, visor thing?, tubes on the jaw), but it served as a very good starting point!

Wow! the finish on that looks fantastic, looks like it really came out well & I love the organic details :thumbsup

What's that coating you've sealed the foam with!

Forgot to add the pictures of it painted. Here those are!

I sealed the foam with mod podge, sanded that smooth, then coated it in plastidip and primer. The black and white sections were just spray paint. Then I did some airbrushing on the skull portion, followed by lots of hand painting to finished it and make it all grimey looking. The gold and silver are rub n buff.

I forgot I should be posting here! So here's what I've done. I made a handcannon using the free blueprint found on punishedprops.com.

My girlfriend is really good at sewing (Enchanted Rose Cosplay on facebook) so she made the undershirt and coat for me! She used a modified vogue coat pattern to make this.

Next I made the chest out of foam and dremeled in the details. After that was done, we pinned it to the duct tape mannequin and made a pattern for the collar using foil and duct tape. Then I assembled the collar out of foam. Fabric will be attached to it using Super 77 adhesive spray.

I've also started on the shoulders and gauntlets. Shoulders just need details dremeled in and the edgeds rounded. The shoulders, collar, and chest will be attached using some sew on snaps (superglued to the foam). I'm hoping to finish this in time for DragonCon.

Heck yeah the Deathsingers Mantle looks awesome.

I'd love to do a Warlock build for the SO but with they're typically 70% cloth and we know nothing about sewing or anything like it.

Never a bad time to learn, Spartan 420! Sewing isn't too hard, and it's a great skill to have even outside of costuming.

Bio, I can't wait to see this finished! I love how much detail came into the Skull just from the paint, it certainly looks like a hard-won trophy.

how did you get the smooth and rounded edges on the helmet?
it looks really epic

Mostly dremeling. I use a worn out sanding drum most of the time and that usually get the foam smooth enough. Sometimes I go over fuzzy spots with a 400 grit "sanding stick" (sand paper glued to a paint stirring stick), then hit it with the headgun. The mod podge also helps smooth it all out, since I sand that as well.

More progress today! I made some gauntlets which still need some more details. Also mod podged the chest and shoudlers and added some metal snaps to the shoulders so they can be attached to the sleeves. Spats are just about done. They look black in these pics, but they're a dark blue. I still need to make a belt with bone details and glue fabric to the collar, but mostly just painting is left!

you sand mod podge? how and why?
sorry im really interesting on learning this.

No problem, happy to answer questions! Each coat is brushed on, so there will be some brushstrokes that are apparent when it dries. Brush strokes aren't ideal once it's painted. So, I brush on 4-6 coats then lightly sand it with 220 and 400 sand paper. It usually doesn't take a whole lot to get it smooth. I just like the finish it gives. So, personal preference I suppose. The mod podge does have the potential to crack if it's dropped on a hard surface or you strike it.

Great to see more progress here, you produce some damn fine pieces.
Also, tinfoil for template making, brilliant! haha, I can't believe I haven't done that already given how much of the stuff I use!

More progress! Sorry I haven't posted much. Only a few more things left before this will be ready for Dragon Con!

For the bond, I made a Future War Cult emblem out of sintra, styrene, and masking tape. Then I molded that in mold max 30 and cast it in smooth cast 300. There's also a little bracket on the back big enough for a 1" strap. The "metal" section of the bond is just 1/2 EVA foam. I beveled the edges with a dremel, glued it into a ring (fits pretty well so it stays up with just friction), then coated it with 4 coats of plastidip and painted silver. To attach the emblem, I put nylon webbing through the bracket on the back and then glued the nylon to the foam.

The handcannon was sealed with 4 coats of plastidip, then primered, painted silver, painted yellow, and weathered.

I still need to tatter the bottom of the coat and paint the shapes on the back with fabric paint. The purple ball is just a light up orb I got on amazon.

I plan to make a short tutorial on painting "bone". Hopefully I'll have that up before Dragon Con!
